Government investigating Constitución corruption?
I heard a rumor from a friend who is connected to the government that a special team of former agents from the Federal Investigations Agency (Agencia
Federal de Investigación or AFI) is currently investigating the traffic stop shakedowns in Ciudad Constitución.
Maybe they will be posing as tourists with US license plates in a sting operation and gather evidence for several months in an attempt to implicate
everyone involved. So they will actually be paying bribes and driving away, all the while recording the corruption for later.
If you have a friend who is on the police force in Constitución you might want to tell them to cool it for a while.

I don't think the dumbest Mexican cop in town would be stupid enough to believe that another Mexican cop was a Gringo. Ever heard of a shark not
recognizing one if its own?

Esta es una noticia maravillosa! Los muertos pueden volver a la vida. La AFI murió el ańo pasado y fue absorbida por la PFP.

Why would anyone want to warn these folks? Isn't that defeating the purpose of those two threads on this subject? Heck, I'd rather chum the waters by
telling them that Christmas bonuses were paid early this year and all of the gringos are loaded with extra cash and start a feeding frenzy.

Really don't have a clue as to what the real origin of this poster may be. However, as I posted on one of the other CC threads, much to the amusement
of gnukid, I have really wondered if there was not just a local government conspiracy to exact revenue from the vast number of travelers who merely
pass through this town, given that by and large, said travelers are coming from or going to destinations that have vast amounts of revenue thanks to
the tourists. (Loreto/ La Paz) What I'm saying is that it's not the cops, per se, but rather in institutionalized program.

You need to be in one, Howard. Do you really think these street-side predators are sharing their loot with the city by design?
I hope you're right. That scenario will excite the world as nothing you've seen before.
I'll start a new thread with my thoughts .

I've posted on a number of the CC threads. Agree or not, it has been my belief that the corruption here is widespread and endemic. Just think about
it. Constitucion is NOT a tourist destination. A huge number of Baja travelers just pass through. I agree that there is quite a bit of economic
activity there, given the vast agriculture industry. But, the vast number of travelers, mostly gringos, are, in effect, traveling from the tourist
destination of Loreto to the tourist destinations of La Paz and Los Cabos. Most don't stop for anything. So, and call me crazy, conspiratorial, but
since the highway is, in effect, a pinch point for the travelers, it just makes a certain sense that the folks in CC can get their share of the
tourist dollar by busting the folks passing through. Maybe this idea flies in the face of the traditional idea of crooked cops trying to eek out a
living. But this has become so frequent as to become the norm. All that said, as someone posted above, given that federal jurisdiction of Mex 1 stops
at the city border, I recommend that the city erect a toll both just inside the city. Charge a toll for those who are clearly not local, and do away
with the annoying shakedown situation that exists today.
