Karma works on zero sum neither created nor destroyed.
Those sounds you hear are "good" and "bad" karma cancelling out.

On my mirrors (2005 F250) the mirrors fold in and out and make a snapping noise as the move. Probably the spring loaded detents. I could see that it would make a loud noise if hit by another truck. It's essentially snapping in and out of place.
