The story was that a
plant produces 3 pineapples, 1 at a time. Don't know if it would produce more or not. The pineapple picker said that most plantations replaced the
bulk of the plants after 2 pineapples.
This was 20 years ago so take it for what's it's worth, but you know my mind works like a trap steel.
My only personal pineapple picking experience was 40 years ago and may have involved alcohol.

Ready to produce again
This is the top from the fruit that we just harvested. The plant itself doesnt look like it will survive. The others have died after producing one
fruit.
Marc...twist the top off and put it in the ground. Keep it well watered

Did BP spray dispersant on my pineapple?
Things turned out a bit different this time around with the new crop. This one is only half the size of the last one and a side shoot grew out of the
base of the plant.
So we ate the fruit and let me tell you it was sooooo sweet and delicious. Just not enough of it.
Now we'll plant the top (3rd generation) as well as the shoot and say goodbye to the original plant.
And of course.....yawn......wait...and wait....another 2 years.

we actually have a triple plant in the ground for about 1 year now. our big one gave a softball size fruit last year and we are hoping for more from
it. it didn't die after fruiting.

That reminds me ... I have my first pineapple top soaking in water, in the window. (After 2+ days, I don't see any of the "threads" referred to
above.) I had better go plant it already!

peel off the small leaves form the bottom until you have a 1/2-3/4" stump. you should see some little nubs poking out at that time. plant it.

I dont soak mine. I just twist the top off and put it in either the ground or a pot with soil. Water well.

Why not just go to safeway for the pineapples and/or mangos?
Or is it the challenge?

Well, I see something that sort of LOOKS like threads, but they are sort of all stuck together. I guess that's what you mean, though.

When BajaJudy started this post back in April, I ran outside to look into my pineapple plants and sure-enough there were the blooms just starting up.
We harvested today. The small one is some sort of sweet little Hawai'in, the big one is over 6lbs from Mexican stock. We have 18 more plants
growing, at least three varieties, and will have our own little pineapple festival in another two years!

I didn't know this about Pineapple (fruit regrowth). I am a landscaper and dah!
If I plant my empty can of Dole Pineapple....will it refill itself?
Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.
