sunglasses

We here at El Faro in San Ignacio have started a program to be able to help the road workers here in Central Baja save their eyesight with sunglasses. At a recent eye clinic, the doctor told us that this amount of sun on their eyes is a major cause of loss of sight in their older age. We are collecting sunglasses to distribute to the road workers. If you would like to help, you can send any useable sunglasses to our office in California and we will get them down and out to the workers. Mailing address: ESMI / El Faro PO Box28111 Santa Ana CA 92799

A very good idea. I suffer from the same affliction...photo sensitive eyes.

I have a large box of old polarized sunglasses at Coyote. These are pretty good quality sunglasses, with just minor defects from my use. I'm a pack rat and never throw anything away. Sometime this winter I will get them to you.

Good luck and congrats.

I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

Gem,

What type of business are you?

Good effort, I can't imagine working down there without sunglasses.

Better do a little homework before you try to help the needy anywhere. You must be careful to only hand out glasses that effectively block harmful sun rays. Cheap glasses can hurt much more than direct sun -- the glasses cheat the iris, keep it open while it gets MORE SUN THAN THE NAKED EYE WOULD GET WITHOUT IT. Unknowing visitors have given me or left down here dozens of pairs of shades. I thought about giving them to my fishermen friends but without a good label (and cheap glasses rarely have any kind of label) I feared I might not be doing them any favors. I busted all of them up, threw them out.

What you say is very true. I had beed working in the safety industry for over 15 years and the only non-UV glasses out there any more are some party galss for kids. We sold very cheep safety glasses under a buck a pair and they were UV rated. I think anyone who would be sending glasses would be safe. Thanks for looking out for others

God bless you for the work you do. He'll guide you better than any of us can. People down here are hurting and they need all the charity they can get. What they need around here is money. Some don't trust them to use it wisely for their family's health and gain. They need help, we need wisdom. (we have all the compassion in the world)
