Thank you, Woody.

Your quest for Summer will have to start somewhere south of here. It's cold and breezy today.

Happy Labor Day Nomads

History of Labor Day in USofA from Wikipedia

Labor Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September (September 6 in 2010).

The first Labor Day in the United States was observed on September 5, 1882 in New York City, by the Central Labor Union of New York, the nation's first integrated major trade union. It became a federal holiday in 1894, when, following the deaths of a number of workers at the hands of the U.S. military and U.S. Marshals during the Pullman Strike, President Grover Cleveland put reconciliation with the labor movement as a top political priority. Fearing further conflict, legislation making Labor Day a national holiday was rushed through Congress unanimously and signed into law a mere six days after the end of the strike. The September date originally chosen by the CLU of NY and observed by many of the nation's trade unions for the past several years was selected rather than the more widespread International Workers' Day because Cleveland was concerned that observance of the latter would stir up negative emotions linked to the Haymarket Affair, for which it had been observed to commemorate. All 50 U.S. states have made Labor Day a state holiday.

"The Worker".. a Labor Day story.

The Worker

The Castle Rock, Colorado, Wage and Hours Government Department claimed Mickey was not paying proper wages to his help and sent an agent out to interview him.

'I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them,' demanded the agent.

'Well,' replied old Mickey, 'There's my ranch hand who's been with me for 3 years. I pay him $600 a week plus free room and board. The cook has been here for 18 months, and I pay her $500 a week plus free room and board.

Then there's the half-wit who works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the work around here. He makes about $10 per week, pays his own room and board and I buy him a bottle of bourbon every Saturday night.'

'That's the guy I want to talk to, the half-wit,' says the agent.

'That would be me,' replied old rancher Mickey.

I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

I've tried to stay away from real work since I retired as a manager of Human Resources at Hooters. Don't be laughing now -- some of those who didn't make the cut left my office in tears, others were angry, upset.

Joined the AFLCIO once. The next Labor Day I was watching the news and guess who was leading the Labor Day Parade in New York? Jessie Jackson. I canceled my dues the next day.

I remember those days of being paid for a day off. IT was nice. Have not had one of those in almost 30 years.
Happy labor day to all who enjoy this day off.
hope it was a great day for you.
