I try to tell the know-it-alls, that not all obstructive bovines wait on the shoulder and then mosey out onto the pavement. I have somehow missed
three or so that came out onto the pavement on a dead run and couldn't be seen because of brush.
Hitting a steer dead on is not my best option. I believe I would take a chance on flying off the shoulder and chance a rollover. Seen too many engines
shoved back to the front seat for my comfort.

Dave, I was in a whimsical mood when I painted that Surburban...plus I have to blame my background of growing up on a ranch next to the Mandan Souix
pony soldiers.
It came from an old, old joke you've probably heard once or twice..as have most people our age.
The Joke:
One day an Indian boy asked his father why they have such long names?
The dad answers, "Well, son, it's tradition when an Indian baby is born for the father to go outside and name the baby after the first thing he sees
... Why do you ask, Two Dogs F--king."
A buddy named Matt told me that joke the first time around..He's a Souix with a good sense of humor.

--Funny story about that particular dog cartoon...
We were way Up North in Saskatchewan hunting snow geese. Coming out of a local pub one night we stood next to the dogs to yak a bit. A couple of
pretty Canadian gals came out of the pub walking towards us. One of them pointed at the dog cartoon painting and laughed..holding her hand up to her
mouth in mock shock.
I said.."So.. you like my retrievers, miss?"
She smiled back, "Well...One looks more like a receiver than a retriever."
I love a quick wit.

Close, Iflyfish ...ranchers mostly around our parts...we did grow quite a bit of alfalfa, though..and some 'other' strange plants. The kind that
reminds you of burning leaves in the fall. Does anybody do that anymore?

the cow that was hit when I was a passenger jumped out of a ditch onto the road so fast there wasnt even a chance to put the brakes on...totalled my
truck...no insurance. It was just north of Bonfil...a notorious cow area...yup driving at night...we just had too fun a day at the beach in Mulege and
were heading home to GN...that really sucked.
The worst part was we had a neighbours kid with us...nobody hurt but we were pretty shook up. The scariest bit was trying to warn cars coming fast
about my truck in the oncoming traffic lane by waving a towel...I was so worried someone else would get in an accident by hitting my disabled truck.
We grabbed a bus for home and I was truckless for a good while.

Wow...strange stuff, indeed, fishabuctor. I also have a friend dubbed Two Dogs..a boat name I helped give him a few years ago. In his case, because
of his two German shorthairs. A chukar fan for sure.
On the death of the person in Alaska, my sincere condolences. As you may know, the highway from Anchorage to Homer sees about 250 moose killed a
year. We recently had one bull high-step the railing and run right in front of our motorhome..missed him by a hair..literally.
Had a girlfriend go completely under one in her Mazda Miata..so she said.
I too, have lost acquaintances over the years from collisions with game on highways..always at night. Everyone from my area has had their share of
road kills..both animal and human. We learned as kids to watch for the eyes and learn the habits of game on roads.
I'm a lucky exception..having hit and killed only one large critter in my 58 years of driving.
(I started driving a truck at 8. Unlicensed of course)....

Scary! Glad you guys are OK.
We had a near miss one early foggy morning heading south from GN on the long fast stretch to Vizcaino about ten years ago. I drive a bit slower ever
since.

During one long drive from eastern Montana on The High-Line, Highway 2, to northern BC, we counted 272 road-killed deer and antelope. The smaller
bodies we did not count...raccoons, skunks, porkies, etc. It's a tragic side of life along our highways. We all try to pay attention and save our
wildlife..and livestock... but sometimes these kills are unavoidable.
