LED Light Replacement in motor home
I have been doing research on LED lighting for our motor home. I just replaced all of my overhead lights and they work GREAT! I used 15LED, Soft White
and they look like the original warm incandescents. There is also a bright white that looks like florescents.
I thought others might be interested in what I found.
LED lights require a small fraction of the energy of incandescent lights and are therefore well worth considering for 12 volt applications. I know
some of you live off the grid and others use motor homes for boodocking.
This LED technology has advanced rapidly and there are now LED lights to replace your regular bayonet and other light bulbs, just "plug and play, or
twist in and play". The bases are just like the bulbs you now have.
I post the link below for those interested in searching out what bulbs might work in your situation.
After much consideration I found interior 12v 1141 Bayonet BA15S Warm White 18 SMD LED to replace all of my over head lighting in our '06 View H.
I offered and got them for $14 on ebay.

LEDWholesalers has a store on ebay where you can make a bid.

I am keeping the incandescents, cheap back up. I wanted to save amps for boondocking and the things draw next to nothing.

make sure you get the yellow color
the blue is pretty harsh for relaxing
now that you have them...
why aren't they used more in the states in regular homes

I got the soft white, the bright whites are like florescents. The soft white is warm like incondescents.
One day these will be our light bulbs. The technology is developing rapidly. Many of the other guys with rigs like ours have had to do elaborate
installs to get LEDs onboard. These are the lights of the future.
The price/quality ratio is not there yet as far as home lighting, but it is on its way as sure as the apple spawned the ipod!
There is technology evolving using different battery materials that will also extend the capabilities of those off the grid. Saving amps is the name
of the game.
I once stayed with a wonderful couple who rented beach from Alphonsena. They were on 12 volt solar and used a sand spike for their washing water etc.
Those LEDs would be a real boon in a situation like that, off the grid. It would be great lighting for remote places like San Roque. This technology
will make things much easier for those who boondock.

Hola, thank you for the info. i've been thinking about led's for my palapa and also for my home security motion detector lights in los angeles.
i'll do more research when i get back to the states as the home depot in cabo doesn't have it in their inventory but they do have it in the states
according to their website.
thanks again,

i got most of mine on ebay and
had them shipped from china
4 watts of power gets you 50w of light
they do "flicker" if you run a "dirty" generator
or lower the voltage with a "electrical surge"
this is probably why they aren't in every home in the states
our lighthouse with all the light on inside
only uses 50 watts of power

Ha. That is weird. I just purchased some for my camper this past week.
These are for the running lights: (I measured them to pull only .04 milli-amps).

And the wafer's are for the interior dome lights: (I haven't got them yet)

Got mine from...
....LEDtrailerlights, as Unbob listed above - They've been going strong, and put out lots of light - I took some comparison photos with the 18/LED
bulb alongside the original 1141's and the light output is the same between the two...
I've been trying LED as replacements in RV's and boats for many years, and these newer, brighter units found on many LED sites are finally up to the
'brightness' test...
Prices vary a bit, but I've found http://www.ledtrailerlights.com to be the most competitive....
