Greezer

you wont believe what I just saw.

walking down the street across from me going in and out of the shops is a man in a bright red t shirt that says GREEZER. some of the locales her are out pointing at him.

I'm sure the shirt means something else but people need to think .:fire:

Short Story

In about 1970 after 2 years fishing out of Loreto, I was getting to know all the Pangeros as we would all gather around in fronto go the Hotel and tell fish Stories. After awhile the use if "P-nche Gringo" got to me and I had an open discussion with the whole Group, I informed them that I was an Americano, they a Mexicano that if they where going to call me a Gringo then I would use the Word "Greaser" or " Spick". After that time and until the present the GrandKids of those Fisherman address me as a Norte Americano and will inform their friends not to use the Word 'Gringo' around me.

I would suggest that if you will show respect, sooner or later you will get Respect.
there will always be those like the few on this Board who show no respect because they have no repect for themselves.

Growing up on the near north side of Chicago, in highschool we called the guys that greased their hair back, "greasers". They were usually accompanied by jeans, t-shirts, leathers, boots etc. No ethnic definition was ever intended.

When I went to visit a friend in Wyoming in the mid seventies, I was relating a story about the old greaser days when I rode a Harley when, to my surprise, a friend of my friend stabbed me in the arse with a pen.
I learned his meaning at the sharp end of a bic.

Loreto pangeros have a phrase for "anal retentive gringo" , I don't know what it is, but I do have faith that they do.

Musta been a Chicano with a sense of humor. I've forgotten the name, but years ago in Central Coast Cal, there was a guy who always sported a tee shirt with his name on it , followed by "Mexican Ditch Digger". That was, indeed, his profession. Of course he owned half a dozen backhoes, a couple of D-7's and several DitchWitches, employed 20 or so people and did quite well for himself...

Many years ago, my students in Mexico City asked me if I was offended by the term "gringo". I told them I was not, as I understood the origin of the term, a centuries old corruption of "griego" (Greek), applied to any foreigner who spoke Spanish badly. As this obviously applied to me, I did not consider it an insult. (forget "green go" or green uniforms or green grow the lilacs- none of that has anything to do with the actual etymology of the word)

But, I pleaded with them, please do not call me a "yanqui". My ancestors, one wounded at Gettysburg, two held POW's in Delaware, fought against the "yanquis" in the War of Northern Aggresion and I did indeed resent being called one of those.

And you're right JR, this is a subject for people with too much time on their hands... But, hey, wasting time on this board at all fits that description.

Crossing the border

My mom is from San Francisco and my dad (RIP) from Mexicali and I remember that as a kid crossing the border Tijuana / San Ysidro my mom would instruct us that when we got to the imigration officer to say american citizen or derivative US citizen as we waited in line. Well one time I remember that we all recited to the INS officer american citizen and my dad just shoued his mica and said Mexican Greaser:lol:

The pangeros in San Nicolas have a description of the ocean when it is so calm it looks white.

Manner of Speaking!

In my experiences in Loreto and San Nicholas the manner in which the word "Gringo" along with the "Pinchie" was meant to be degrading.

Yes the pangeros have a word for all persons that fits both Mexicanos and Americanos. "Pantejo"{SP}.

I must report that it is a pleasure to be around People who do not Curse as is done in Calif. I am amazed that most of the youngsters are Polite and well spoken so far. I hardley ever hear "You Know, You Know, You Know! and all those other Phrases of Lazy Speech.
