Have You Ever Loved a (Baja) Dog So Much
That you made the bed AROUND HIM, because you didn't want to disturb him (and with a Great Dane, that ain't easy).
I don't know anyone like that (mutter, grumble, "You Sucker!")

Yes I Have ! and his name was "Bud"!!
On a Day several years ago I was visiting my Mother who was in a Nursing Home in Lawton Okla..We were setting around the Lunch Table with the owner
and the subject of Dogs came up.
I made the Statment that I would like to have a Dog to take back with me to Loreto. The Owner said"Do you have a $100 Bucks in your Pocket?", I
responded that "Yes" I do.
He told me that he rasied Dogs and for me to go to his Place and Pick out the Pup that I wanted. I did just that.
As I approached the large Pen of Pups only one came to me,wagging his tail,smiling up a Storm. That has got to be the Pup! He chose me!!
A pure Breed Black Lab crossed with a German Short Hair 3months old. He and I headed out to Baja in my little Toyota Pick up. Named him Bud!
Stopped in Amarillo and bought him a Ice Cream cone. Will never forget him eating that Cone.
Got to Loreto and Virginia or Course fell in love with him. Put him in the Panga and away we went Fishing. He was well behaved. After about 2 weeks he
got Sick and started Trowing up, so away we went to San diego{A 750 mile trip) to the Vet. Gues what ? He had Porvo!
7 Days later and $700 Dollars he survived and we went Home.
We took him all over to Calif. to Montana, to Olympia Pennsula, and back to Loreto many times. Then to Lake havasu, then to 20 Acres in the Central
Valley, where one Day he just lay down and Died at 14 years.
I put him in a Box and Buried him out behind the House. What a Good old Baja Dog.

Hi Skeet,
What a great story and I love it.
The Great Dane I am talking about is also a puppy that had Parvo. He was born with only one eye and is totally deaf. The breeder was going to put
him down that day using a hammer to the head.
We picked him up and took him to the vet for puppy shots. He immediately reacted to that; got sick, stopped eating, curled up and prepared to die.
We force fed him for six days and on the seventh, he picked himself up off his pillow and walked to the big dogs' food bowl and started feeding
himself.
He hasn't missed a meal or an opportunity for one ever since.
And, despite being deaf/semi-blind, he has no idea of limitations.
His motto for life is "Peace, Love, Happiness and, "Yeah, gimme your fish taco!"

Gypsy Jan: Great Story! Please bear with me for another.
His Name was" Queso". Mesican Yellow and Whippett.
Many years ago, this was before "Bud" at the New Presidente in Nopollo there would be a Dance, Buffett{With Italian food coming in by Air} every
Friday nite.
One nite I went down to enjoy the Music and Food and during the process met some People from LA who told me a story of being in Loreto for the
week,staying at the Hotel. On one of their Trips out they had spotted this Puppu Dog standing next to its Dead Momma on the Road. They feeling sorry
picked up the Pup and had it in their room but since they were going back to LA ask me "What do we do with it??.. I sai d; i will take it".
They brought me this very poor Skinny , long legged dog that I thought must be a Greyhound. I was headed back to Los Banos in a couple of Days so took
Her with me. You should have seen Virgini"s Face when I drove up in my 1965 Mustang with this Long Legged Skinny Dog in the Front Seat.!!!
I still was using my Cessna 170 for Transportation at that time so we would just load her up with us and take her on our Trips to Loreto. She would
always stand up on takeoffs and Landings, then lay down in the seat. Never any trouble.
I would take her walking on the Canal Banks around Los Banos and she would chase and Catch Rabbits!! The only Dog I ever had that could do that.
In Loreto after we had Queso for about 4 years we had a big problem with Street and Beach Dogs running wild so a guy was Hired to get rid of all Dogs
running loose in the Streets. He did that! I counted 224 Dogs dumped in a Week out North of Town. The whole Town was told that all Dogs not inside the
yard would be Posined. Many were.
They would take Weinerput in Posin, place in bags and give to the Dogs.
Anyway one day Queso and I took a Walk up toward the Cathouse and she got some Poison and Died in about 2 Minutes in my Arms. She is buried on Rancho
Sonrisa out North.
What a Dog. Loved em both very much.
You know Jan sometimes Dogs are Smarter and Better Company than People.

This Great Dane is Totally Lacking the Visigoth Gene
There is';t an aggressive bone in his body. It is kind of like having a living, breathing very heavy sack of oatmeal. He lies down and goes to sleep
and nothing, short of the smell of steak cooking in the kitchen will rouse him. (Did I mention that he has a VERY healthy appetite?)
