Semper Fidelis and Happy Birthday to all my Marine Corps Brothers and Sisters.

Marine Corps
Hymn Lyrics
From the Halls of Montezuma
To the Shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
of United States Marine.

Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in ev'ry clime and place
Where we could take a gun;
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job
The United States Marines.

Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve;
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

Twenty years from now you\'ll be more disappointed by the things you didn\'t do then the things you did.

I still get "motivated" when I hear the Marine Corps Hymn. It's been said that even old timer Marines still get teary-eyed when the "hymn" is played and when ribbed about it they growl like tigers ready to bite your head off. "....and when I get to heaven St. Peter I will tell, another Marine reporting sir, I've done my time in hell." Semper Fidelis!!!

A tale of two Marines

Joe and Bill met each other as they were in the same platoon in Boot Camp. Over the next thirty years they found themselves as Shipmates at the same duty stations and also solo while serving at other Posts and Stations in CONUS and on foreign shore. Now, both retired Chief Warrant Officers, they found themselves Shipmates again at the Naval Retirement Home.

One aftennoon after a game of cribbage in the Solaraium, Joe became quite serious and asked Bill if he could make a request. Bill, of course, agreed. "Bill, the final stanza of the Marine Corps Hymn states "If the Army or the Navy ever look on Heavens scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by United Staes Marines." "We're getting on and this is our last duty station. If you go first, will you do something for me?" Bill promised he would. Then Joe said "will you come back and tell me if the streets are really guarded by Marines ?" Bill promised that he would.

A few months later Valkyries came and escorted Bill to Valhalla and entrusted him to Odin. Although not fallen in battle, the Valkyies came just the same.

Some weeks later, Joe awoke to see an image of Bill floating at the end of his bunk. "Bill, you've come back to report. Please tell me, are the streets of Heaven really guarded by United States Marines ?" Bill responded "I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is, Yes, Joe, the streets are guarded by Marines. The bad news is you are the Officer of the Day next Thursday."

On behalf of "us" thanks to all of you for your good wishes. Today, 10Nov10, Our thirty sixth year wedding annivervary. Semper Fi, RRC.
