I am not making this up: for pepper lovers

My neighbor in NorCal is an Englishman who works for HP and has lived in the USA for a dozen years. He recently was posted to Mexico City for 6 months, working with TelCel who was using some software from HP. He developed a liking for salsas and peppers in general and wanted to know if I could help him make some salsa. No problemo I say, and give him a list of ingredients, using jalapenos.
Last evening I go over and slice, de-seed and de-vien one of the peppers and then tell him to do the other dozen but to wear gloves. He has no gloves so he says he will wash his hands very well and I tell him to NOT rub his eyes.
When he gets done with the peppers he takes off to the loo (that's what they call it) to get rid of some beer. A few moments later I hear this scream, he comes running out of the bathroom, hopping on one leg screaming that his d*ck is on fire. I dawns on me that he has transferred the pepper juice from his hand to his pecker and I collapse into a fit of laughter while he keeps moaning and asking what do do. I haven't a clue so I google it and come up with this:

Prevent burning the skin by wearing gloves when cutting and handling hot peppers. If you get a burn anyway, cover the area with vegetable oil for an hour, if possible. Another method involves washing the skin with rubbing alcohol immediately. Follow with a coating of milk or vegetable oil.

I read him this and he grabs the vegetable oil and HANDS IT TOO ME. No thanks, you've got to do it. Just then his wife walks in from their home office and wants to know what the ruckus is all about. I hand her the oil, point to the computer screen and politely take my leave.
This morning I see him in the driveway on his way to work and he says it's still a little sore but thanks me for the instructions as this is the first time he ever got lucky due to hot peppers. Viva Mexico!!

Too funny. My nephew did the same thing to his guervos last week after handling peppers! I think milk has an enzyme that neutralizes it. He could have dipped his wick in a milkshake and she would have had a better time. I'm sure he was happy either way.

Been there and done that, unfortunately without the happy ending, and yes, it hurts like hell.

My ex and I had been married a few months, we were engaged in a little foreplay when all of a sudden she's on fire down "there". She jumps into the bathtub full of cold water and calls her grandma, explains the situation. Grandma asks if there were any foreign substances involved to which my wife replied "grandma, we're not into that kind of stuff!"

Then it dawns on me, I had made salsa with fresh jalapeno earlier in the day and must not have washed my hands well enough.

After she stopped burning, we had many years of laughs about that one.

rookie mistake for sure, but it's still funny as heck~

First time I cut up a pound of jalapenos by hand without gloves, it was like an acid burn on the hands for 3 days. Learned THAT lesson the first time! And that was B.I. (Before Internet), no way to look up remedies. :(

And BillP- I'm glad you posted that story, I was wondering how I could put it delicately~~~

An ounce of prevention.... ;)

Mexicans have REAMS of hilarity based on the double entendre of chile and the male appendage. For fun ask a Mexican what "Sal de Pito" stands for. And it isn't adviseable to inquire of this with the fairer gender.

Eat a lot of chile and Mexicans will hoot and holler, jump around on one leg, pulling an imaginary loo chain with one hand and giggle about you needing "ice cubes" the next morning.

that is a really funny story,

when I first meet my wife, again this was before the Internet,
she was helping me make dinner, she is from detroit and didnt have much experience with peppers.
she said she wanted to cut the peppers up for me as I was making dinner,, I did tell her not to rub her eyes,, she didnt listen, a few mins later she start to scream and caring on,, I didnt really know what to do, so I took her to the shower got her undressed ( yea yea I know ) got her head under the shower and it still was not working , then I remembered something about salt, I got the salt and just started rubbing it on her eyes ,, it worked really fast,, she never made that mistake again
