Loreto changes
Driving up the main drag of Loreto this morning, I looked out and realized something was radically different. There, where for 19 years a charismatic
lady had served tacos to an adoring throng of tourists and locals alike, was nothing but cracked concrete and some demolition rubble. I had to keep
going but resolved to check it out later on my way back. Sure enough, McLulu's was gone, flattened. I was very uneasy about just why this landmark
attraction had vanished. I got out my pocket camera and took this image of what was left.

While I was snapping a couple of shots someone hailed me from across the street. I turned and was most relieved to see our dear friend alive and well
in the doorway of her new location. Whew. I don't think Loreto is ready to go on without Maria and her popular taco shop. I know I'm not.
Certainty is the child of ignorance, knowledge is the mother of doubt. Question everything!

Funny. We were talking to Lulu about her stand last week. The shop she's moved into has been basically closed for some time.
BTW, she has always told us her name is Lourdes, but she prefers Lulu...so that's what we use...

Hola tehag,
as i don't spend too much time in loreto, basically, just pass through on my way to either los barriles or los angeles while staying overnite at hotel
angra, what do you call the main drag in loreto ?
it would be a very good change for me rather than eating at delmonico's ( ? ) the old el nido each time.
i thank you in advance,
DA RAT

Rat, it's on Hidalgo, just east of the Pescador market.
Delmonico's heh Likely you're referring to Domingo's
Wouldn't mind a Delmonico's in Loreto.
Spend a few hours there in the 60's.

Lulu's 20th Anniversary party at the old place a few years back..

Many "tacos y limes" over the years

That is a nice picture, Tijereta.
Don Pepe's was owned by Lulu's son. A great move for Lourdes, as it is a much better building than her old stand.

ooh... I'm gonna miss that old place.
Food won't taste quite the same, but I betcha we'll get used to it.
Lulu's is a "Must Do" when you're in Loreto for excellent tacos of unusual variety.

through.

Fred Shields- Owner and operator of "California Pools" out of Long Beach Calif.
Fred and patty had Don O'neil buid them the 2nd American Type Home in Loreto. He still lives there.
When I first came to Loreto there was only 5 Americanos then about 1970 or so Fred and patty showed up. He Tio Don and I would take trips to Catalana
island, take a Goat with us and camp on the Island and catch oo many Lobsters we could not eat them all. Fishing was Fantastic. and Fred was a hellav
Fisherman.
We all Hung out in his Friends Motor Home the Day Hurricane Liza hit.
As life goes Fred and Patty Split and Doc Timmons Wife and Fred Married.
During that time it was Jack Kimbrough, Jack Foster, Ben Benner, Myself, Don O"neil then later came along Jamie and Marie Parker and then Von.
We had some great Parties and Fred Shields is one of the Best.

True, but tricky to get to, off Salvatierra. A map might help.

Actually, I believe the new shop is on Salvetierra, just across the road from the old shop.
Ceiling is higher too, so it should be easier for those taller folks...
