Old LA Bay Pemez
I remember the attendant at the station by the old desalinization plant in 1978/79. He played an aluminum back guitar, the back having been fashioned
from an airplane fuel tank.
Anyone remember his name?
Or the baker who used to bake bread in an igloo shaped adobe oven?
Those were the days.

The old gas station attendant is named Patricio. He and his family are still here in Bahia, and in addition to being a very good guitar player and
singer, he makes some very nice leather works. Belt buckles, key chains, belts, etc., very nicely crafted.
The old baker you are probably thinking of is Sandoval. He and his family are also still in town; he has had a tienda for many years now. His
daughter runs a nice little food stand; you can eat there or take out. She makes great stuff and the prices are very reasonable. Her place is right
next to her Dad's store, and just a bit North of Costa del Sol.

We still see Patricio, wandering around the village with his goods. He must be doing fine. At least to my eyes, he hasn't aged since he quit pumping
at the Pemex so many years ago.
I sure do miss those days, of cars, trucks and small airplanes all in the same line waiting for gas at the end of the old airstrip in the village.

I remember the wild New Year's party at Papa Diaz' (1978-79)
it had been raining, but cleared up that night
a band from Ensenada played
dancing and drinking all night long
those were the days--4 of us made the trip in a 68 Ford Falcon will all our camping gear
it rained so much that we stayed in the back of an old Hertz truck box somewhere south of Diaz'
after too much tequila one night we called it Campo Tequila Hertz (and it did)

That sounds like it has not changed in all these years! Last year's 2003-04 party was the same weather... it stopped raining just before the fiesta
and dance started!

My brother Mark and I would bring oranges,avacados and propane to Patrick in the 70's and when the station was out of gas, he always had a few gallons
for us.
