Truck rentals

Has anyone ever taken a U-Haul box van or enclosed trailer into Mexico? The website says Canada is OK, but no mention of Baja.

I know of a couple of them that had been rented and driven south never to return. Saw a trailer chained to power poll untill it was cannibalized to death. Numerous Bobtail Boxes in yards for storage.
I would think it happens often.
Also..it may be a way for U-HAUL Inc. to be culling their herd. :light:

Bass, consider buying one. Don't believe the rental outfits allow crossing into Mexico.
In the early 90's I bought an old 24 ft cabover U Haul with rolldoor and loading ramp. Had it for over 2 years here in Loreto with all my belongings in it, while the house was built.
Drove it back to Ca. and sold it for more than I paid for it.

I think my photographic memory ran out of film

I am only moving stuff to La Mision right now. I found a place that rents the big Sprinter cargo vans, and enclosed trailers, with Mexico allowed. They open in an hour. The purchase idea is a good one, but that would leave my truck and boat up here, not an option. Decisions, decisions! Oh well, at least I am unemployed and heading south!! :smug:

I rented and drove down a Uhaul when I moved down to Playas de TJ for a couple of years. I really didn't tell the rental agency where I was going, but rented it from Chula Vista, so know that I wasn't the first to bring it across the border!

I tried to drive it through San Ysidro, but was stopped and directed to Otay. I had my FM-3 and Menaje de casa, so had to go through a big import/immigration hassle at Otay. It took about 4 hours and a hundred bucks or so. Had to have a "broker" at Otay who handled all the paperwork, my itemized list, etc. It wasn't fun nor easy! I did move everything I needed down in one trip, but don;t think I'd do it again! Suerte, H.
