Me and mi esposa bonita went downtown San Diego and saw the parade, the multi cultural festival, food, drink and music. We capped it off with a nice dinner at the Tao resturant in Normal Heights.........we heard that there was a festival of some sort down town, didn't realize it was a MLK thing till we got there......dt

They'll have to stand in front of the mayor and give him the "I had a dream" speech.
Next...a small riot. Bust up a couple of shoe stores.

Then....get hell beaten out of them by the cops.

Next... reparations. Maybe even traffic lights.

Nothing comes easy for people of color these days. You White folks have to fight for it.

Did You Know That

1. The Rosamar development in Rosarito was funded by Jimi Hendrix?

2. That Rosa Parks loved visiting Baja so much that the Las Rocas Hotel named her favorite suite after her?

3. That Coretta Scott King, after traditional U.S. medical treatments failed her, sought refuge in Rosarito for alternative medical treatment? Sadly, her illness was so advanced she died shortly after arrival.

I remember Coretta Scott King's death here in Rosarito and the unceremonious transfer of her bodybag from the back of an old Ford station wagon to the police-escorted hearse procession waiting for her remains on the USA side. At first I though it was disrespectful, since TJ mortuaries have very nice hearses. But it occurred to me she wouldn't have minded the simple ride in the back of a civil rights era Ford station wagon again. So I let it go. She went out fighting.

"McQueen died at the age of 50 in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, following an operation to remove or reduce several metastatic tumors in his neck and abdomen.[48]
McQueen developed a persistent cough in 1978; he gave up smoking and underwent antibiotic treatments without improvement. Shortness of breath became more pronounced and in December 1979, after the filming of The Hunter, a biopsy revealed mesothelioma,[49] a type of cancer associated with asbestos exposure. By February 1980, there was evidence of widespread metastasis. While he tried to keep the condition a secret, the National Enquirer disclosed that he had "terminal cancer" on March 11, 1980. In July, McQueen traveled to Playas de Rosarito, Baja California for unconventional treatment after U.S. doctors advised him that they could do nothing to prolong his life.[50]
Controversy arose over McQueen's Mexican trip, because McQueen sought a very non-traditional treatment that used coffee enemas, frequent shampoos, injection of live cells from cows and sheep, massage and laetrile, a supposedly "natural" anti-cancer drug available in Mexico, but not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. McQueen was treated by William Donald Kelley, whose only medical license had been (until it was revoked in 1976) for orthodontics.[51] Kelley's methods created a sensation in both the traditional and tabloid press when it became known that McQueen was a patient.[52][53] Despite metastasis of the cancer to much of McQueen's body, Kelley publicly announced that McQueen would be completely cured and return to normal life. However, McQueen's condition worsened and "huge" tumors developed in his abdomen.[51] In late October 1980, McQueen flew to Ciudad Juárez to have the five-pound abdominal tumors removed, despite the warnings of his U.S. doctors that the tumor was inoperable and that his heart would not withstand the surgery.[48][51] McQueen checked into a Juarez clinic under the assumed name of "Sam Shepard" where doctors at the small, low-income, clinic were unaware of his real identity. McQueen died of cardiac arrest one day after an operation to remove a large tumor from his neck. A following article in the El Paso Times noted that right before his death he awoke and asked for some ice and then passed.
Shortly before his death, McQueen had given a medical interview in which he blamed his condition on asbestos exposure.[54] While McQueen felt that asbestos used in movie soundstage insulation and race-drivers' protective suits and helmets could have been involved, he believed his illness was a direct result of massive exposure while removing asbestos lagging from pipes aboard a troop ship during his time in the Marines" -Wikipedia

I actually had a tangental connection in that back in 1980, I bought a house in Agoura, CA. The seller was a sweet guy who went by the name of Woody. Woody and his wife had four kids. While all four of the kids were under the age of 10, his wife developed cancer. His wife frequented the same hair salon as did Ali Mcgraw. They befriended each other. When Woody's wife passed, Ali had a truckload of Christmas presents delivered to the house for the kids.

I suppose that those who have the opportunity could Shag their Female Staffers in MLKJs honor. If he's looking down, I'm sure that would bring a smile (or Leer) to his face.

Back when I had to work for a living, I Took MLK Monday as an unpaid holiday every year. Now, it's just another day.

I lived for a couple of years right nextdoor to the place, but can't recall the name.
