Bird Shots
I forgot that this site is infested with bird lovers. There have been some superb shots posted in the last few days. They got my photographer juices
running so I decided to share these. Some may have been seen here before but I don't think so.
These shots were taken at or near Gonzaga Bay where I hang out with my camera when the wind ain't blowing and it's not too hot.
Thanks for looking:

Wow, what absolutely beautiful photos. I think I seriously need to get a better camera or learn how to use mine better. What type of camera did you
use for these?
Whenever I hear that rainy, chill wind blow. I think it may be time to head for Mexico. Tengo que obedecer mi corazon!

BB,
Beautiful shots you got there.
Heads up, awhile back it what discussed that for viewing by all without having to scroll, the maximum width of the shots should not be larger than
800 px (some of yours are 1024px).
Wish I was down there!!

Very, very nice. That last shot, are those long-billed dowitchers?

Geeze...I'm sorry about the large size. I guess I gotta revisit the posting regs...these shots are from Photobucket which usually does a good job.
The bottom birds are long billed dowitchers..according to my Sibley Guide to Birds that I carry around.
Re cameras: I use a Canon EOS 7D and a bunch of lenses. But all of these shots were taken with my standard bird...and bird in flight.....set up.
That is the 7D with a Canon EF 100-400MM f4-5.6 (L) IS lens.
Because the camera has a 1:6 crop that produces a lens of 160 to 640MM. Shooting birds requires that you shoot hand held so a lens that long is gonna
produce blurred images from shaking unless you compensate for that.....so the lens's IS (Image Stabilization) capability is critical and I also shoot
at ISO 400, 1/2500 of a second and I use the camera's "Servo IF" focus setting...that locks the focus in and tracks the subject until you shoot.
I also cheat a whole bunch by using the camera's capability to shoot 8 shots per second...so I get the bird in the view finder, focus and then shoot
like a machine gun....not fair.:-)

Don't sweat it. It's recommended - not a rule.

Great shots, BB. I love those little fluffy ones in the first pix.
Gonzaga is bird heaven in the winter! You've make me homesick.
