Things the Mexicans do right
I know I'll probably get some flack for my opinion but hey thats the spirit of this forum sometimes.
TOPES!
Yes they can be dangerous if you aren't watching and they can really mess things up when you hit them too fast (I've done it), but the flip side is
they generally work which means they can save accidents with pedestrians and potentially save lives.
In the states I have seen local and state governments come up with a lot of stupid ideas to slow people down in front school zones for instance, they
will spend a ton of money signs and lights etc... and it doesn't work, throw a CHEAP tope out and you have an instant speed adjuster for those driving
by, they may hit it fast once but not usually twice.
Anybody else have ideas on some things they do in Mexico that in your opinion is done right over typical U.S. or Canadian methods.
And if you are so inclined, which I know many Nomads are, how about the flip side and the things you think are done wrong.

Ooops! I got laughed right out of the string a couple of years ago, when I stated that topes were a good idea. Get ready....
Here...I will add a bit of levity to what is otherwise a bumpy road:
One of my favorite single-panel cartoons is The Quigmans. It used to appear in the San Francisco Chronicle. The Protagonist/main cartoon
character is a goofy looking guy named "Bob".
Bob was lying in the middle of the road. The caption read, "Endowed with a low sense of self-esteem, Bob took a job as a speed bump."

Any idea why US and Canada haven't adopted the usage of Topes?
James Dean would still be with us if they had.

Ah yes Jams Dean- I'm sure there a little more to that story than a speed bump.

There is a newer housing area in San Ysidro where there are topes---several on every block. It is to discourage people from taking a short cut
through there after leaving the Las Americas Mal---they work!
I would love to have at least on on our street--

James Dean....!!!!! Boy, THAT"S a stretch
I think substance abuse, sado-masochistic tendencies, and that youthful curse of feeling immortal contributed a bit to his demise

In my area they're mainly for keeping those rowdy teenagers from their excesses.
Imagine how it would be if every stop sign had been replaced with a Topes.

They do work. Some good ones have mellowed out over the years. My favorite was the one in front of El Palomar in Santo Tomas but it's just a shell
of its former self.

They put in a few here in PB that caught everybody by surprise. There were deep gouges carved into them, oil from busted pans all over the ground and
even broken glass from lights. They will still bring a car almost to a complete stop.
They have served their purpose well. These little a-hole kids around here arn't happy if their car isn't going full speed.

Is someone going to go ahead and rename this thread???
Or should I just hijack it and mention something I think Mexican's do right?
I particularly like the hair nets, masks and gloves used in the supermarkets.

Kinda looked to me that it turned into the Tope thread, exclusively!
