California Coastal
Not Baja unfortunately, but this is a great website that I have just learned about. Current pictures are great, but what I found most interesting is
the same picture over time. As an example I can see my house dating back to 72 and as recent as a couple of months ago.

Great website. It is fun to look at places you are familiar with and those that you wish you were. When I firts heard about the project you could go
on line and submit place names for shots. I wasted many hours doing that. Have you purchased a shot of your place yet?

I believe Barbara Striesand made a big fuss over the photos which include her residence; don't believe it did her much more good than the woman at
Grover's link.

Grover: They make reference to the complainst on their website. The sad part is that if people only had the remotest clue how many times per day
their image is captured and stored, they would realize this site should be the least of their concerns.
Elgatoloco: You don't even need to buy the pic, you can down load and put on photo quality paper and get a real quality looking picture.

Obviously this team has the best intentions in mind for the Califonia Coast. It's such a hoot to read (and listen to) the 'rants' they have linked to
the site. My only problem with the site is that I spend WAY TOO MUCH TIME drooling over my keyboard looking at the coastline. (Yuck... I gotta go
get a towel and clean my keys. :lol

What is intertesting is how it takes the polital dispute out of "if" the coastline is changing and to what degree. It is amazing how much change has
take place over the past 35 years.

I?m probably going to get blasted here so please take it easy on me??? I listen to the rant and after listening to it, it made me think??. Yeah I know
about all the times on a daily basis our mugs are framed and stored away?. They?re even using it at airports and the such for security and the such?.
But doesn?t this lady have a point or better yet, wouldn?t we be better off it this wasn?t allowed to take place?
Yeah I also know that even if it was not allowed people would still do it??. what I?m thinking about is being lucky enough to purchase a nice little
bit of beach near Loreto?.. build my little palapa then have some nut in a helicopter hovering over me taking my pic or my properties pic and then
offering it for sell on the internet?..
Sorry guys?.. just think it?s not right??..

Air Photos
No matter what you think about this web page air photos have been a way of life since the 1920s. In northern California Maxam Corporation used
airphotos they took of Pacific Lumber lands to determine that an unfriendly take over of Pacific Lumber would be very profitable. Foresters, both
private and governement, use airphotos daily. The US Government and Private industry are taking photos from above all the time. Low elevation air
photos are available for most of the US from the 1920s on. USGS topo maps that we all use are made from air photos.
Check out www.terraserver.com for what is easily avaialble to the public for free. For a price you can buy much, much more detailed images and who knows
what the military has. There is a whole field of science called "Remote Sensing" that is the applied use of these images. I don't really like the big
brother world of cameras everywhere but its reality. For another angle check out www.tripcheck.com and click on road cams to see the comings and goings of people in Oregon and if you're really paranoid watch the movie "Enemy of
the State".

I do understand the desire to not have every movement digitally stored. Nor would I want a copter or plane above my house every hour on the hour, BUT
you gotta believe once a year for documentation purposes I think it wonderful AND I wish I could be seen in one of the pics.
Now, about the same thing in Baja...I am thinking how could I fund such an effort...can your mind even imagine the degree of change it will see over
the next 35 years?

All points are well taken?.. but my analogy using Baja was a little off the mark?. What I was trying to say there was that someone living on the
California coast may have their personal dream spot?.
And as far as Baja being so far behind?.. as soon as there is a demand for these photos up north it will happen here.
Bottom line is, wouldn?t it just be better if it didn?t happen just for the sake of a few who want to see??????.. IMHO

Tio, I understand your position, but no I don't agree. Our coastal land is changing VERY fast, but as politicians like to do many still deny....as
they say pictures don't lie.

Depending on when you last visited Hermosa Tio, you may not recognize it. I live next city over and Skateboard or jog down that way many times a
week and it changes before your eyes. Older being torn down and replaced with maximum size allowed new. Still a great city, but possibly not the
one a person would know if it has been a few years.

Regarding the California Coastal Project site, I have been following this for some time and think that it is a great public service. It helps
tremendously in things like beach erosion measurements and such. Its pretty clear to me that the Adelmans are not making a profit on this. The many
of hours of helicopter time cannot be payed for by the limited number of photos that are sold especially as has been pointed out there are sattelite
photos available from other sources. And yes, my dwelling in Avila Beach is visable and no I don't feel violated! Since all the photos are from off
shore I don't think any FAA rules have been broken.

Also, if you go to their website and the "our license" part it states that any revenue derived form the use of the photos goes to The California
Coastal Protection Network or to the UC Santa Cruz Institue of Maine Sciences.
