Pemex is a bargain...but, then again, so is Baja!
I just received this info from Carol of Discover Baja:
Gas prices are: $2.87 for magna---$3.24 for premium --- $3.00 for diesel.
Prices here in Riverside are hovering around $4.05/gallon Unleaded 87 Octane...

In San Felipe magna is 8.77 per liter - where are you finding it under 7 pesos a liter?

the price is 8.77 pesos per liter and you are lucky if you are not ripped off 10% of the volume. So what is the saving?
The grass is always greener....
and so, there is always a better spot in Baja

I just pulled out my facturas dated 18/3/2011 and 19/3/2011.
I paid $7.86450/liter in los barriles, guerrero negro, el rosario(baja cactus), cuidad constitucion and ensenada.
(7.86450x 3.8)/11.5= $2.598 or $2.60/gal

Somebody please tell me where I can stay in the United States for 3 nights (for the price of 2), order 2 breakfasts for $6 (Huevos Rancheros w/warm
tortillas), and park at the beach for free???

I was just trying to make it even more tempting with $2.31 gas.
The states are so expensive...after living in baja for a long time you get sticker shock on returning to the states. O'k some things are cheaper NOB,
but not everything.

I don't think anything is cheaper NOB. Plus, the people of Baja are friendly, my wife and I speak Spanish so no language barrier, lots of Mexican
food, cheap gasoline, 'Economy' and 'Budget' aren't dirty words, etc. (okay, 'Barato' y 'Bajo precio')..

offroad parts sure are.
bilstein 5160's are $300/ea here, in the states they are $150/ea. Tires are cheaper here, due to mounting/balancing.

how about electronics, automobiles, clothes, many groceries, etc.?
many consumer goods are much less expensive in US relative to Mexico. that is why so many Mexicans shop here in US.
i also note that the average wage in US appears to be relatively better than mexico: the average joe six pack gringo has higher standard of living and
can afford more luxuries than the average joe six pack mexican.
re your original topic, price of gasoline is peanuts in the face of life's other costs. your obsession with fuel costs is short sighted and silly.
if you are so sensitive to fuel cost, why did you buy a gas guzzler in first place?

paid $28 for 10 gallons when i topped of in ensenada a week ago. they even gave me dollars back in change, which was like a winning lotto ticket,

We're getting pretty comfortable with the peso hovering around 12:1 for so long. It would seem the usual fluctuations have flattened out. So long
as this excahnge rate holds, Baja is a bargain.

In San Felipe, Leidys and I stayed at Hotel Diamante for 3 nights - we only were charged $29/night for 2 nights. The closest I have stayed in a hotel
of that calibre was in Colombia a few yrs ago.
We're both hyped about going back to San Felipe where the weather is warm and we can relax and have our family vacation for less descretionary dollars
than we could afford here in the US.
As for gasoline, that all figures into the vacation equation as cost. The Honda Pilot I drive 90% of the time barely gets better mileage
(city) vs. the Jeep, but with front wheel drive (2wd), the Jeep is the only way I roll in Baja!

In Tijuana the Magna is $9/liter. In Ensenada last Saturday it was $8.6

In all fairness, you should include the cost of Mex insurance, tourist permits, etc. We camp out in Anza Borrego all the time and don't pay a dime.
Both places have their merits.

Camping on the beach vs. camping in a canyon -- I hear you, but Baja is worth the extra travel $$.
