maybe if you are considering dividing north and south you should think about the folks that actually live here and the ones that just talk about
it-that would be 4 different sites-
I live north, feel safe, but LOVE to read the shared stories and see the pix of my southern Baja Nomads! do not change a thing. If something offends
you or peees you off, all you have to do is click

If this about "Old School"... Let's show the border back in 1978..

different set of experiences and values? How would you feel? BCS has millions of visitors, much of it in the tropics, its a different place with a
different government, different laws, different prices, problems, issues, yet you have a large group of Northern posters and some of them very
arrogant posting insults when Southern posters relay our experience. Look even Skeet is turned off!
Its about time we come to grips with this, posts should be divided by region, and posters should have a symbol noting their region. Arguing about
nonsense which is vastly different and incomparable is getting old and its a waste of time, there is little comparison in experiences and dependencies
between North and South. They are 1000 miles apart. |
The South shall rise again!!

I remember I had a beer under the monument years ago before the military took it over. I spent the night at the La Pinta.

He wants more positive comments, less focus on the crime and more dialogue about the future of Baja Sur. (Don't develop unless you have the water!)

Stooopid thing always reminded me of a draw-bridge that wouldn't return to a position that would let traffic continue.
Maybe that's the symbolic seperation some here would like to see. A monument to isolation.

Both North & South have good and bad but all have interesting and fun people if you get out in the local cafes, stores, charity causes, etc. Have
had some very good experiences with people coming to help when help was needed. They came without expecting anything but knowing they were doing the
right thing.
Thus, I try to keep the same "Pay It Forward Attitude" when I help others out North or South Baja. Even with some of the written put downs between
nomads on this site, I doubt that anyone here would pass another nomad by in Baja if they needed help. Take Care & Travel Safe "No Hurry, No
Worry, Just FUN"
P.S. currently down in Maztalan after driving across from Nogales,on the way down I had stayed a few days in Los Mochis before making the 5 hour drive
into Maztalan. Will be heading further south to Puerto Vallarta in a few days. Have never driven that far down on mainland but told it is 6 hour
drive down from Maztalan. Will jump on the 15 toll road until it runs out about 109 miles from Puerto Vallarta. Will take the road along the coast
at San Blas to try and avoid the mountain traffic puzzled drivers,LOL.
Having as much fun as my drive down to Cabo in October from Rosarito, just TOO MUCH FUN!! Really liked La Paz where I also took the ferry across to
Topobambo which is only 11 miles from Los Mochis before I started my trip back to Nogales the next morning. Left at 7am and was crossing Nogales by
4:30pm. Yes, I used the Toll Road going and coming just safer & faster. MMMM GOOD!! Now that is what I am talking about Baja or Mainland I have
met Nomads in both regios, as we just do not like being fenced in,LOL>

What a great photo... They should cut down the damn trees that all but hide it today!
Remember these billboards along the new highway in the '70s? The last one standing was near Punta Prieta I believe...

I gotta say that even by the yammering excesses of this board, this particular thread is a bit off the charts.
Dennis is by far the voice of reason.
I hope that doesn't pee him off

Thank gawd that is what you meant. I didn't have you pegged as being dogmatic to that level. You tend to restrict it to economic issues, which I
seldom agree with, but at least understand where it's coming from.
As for the issue you cite, I don't think it is so much freedom haters as much as would-be censors. And really, wouldn't we all like to have Doug's
power? I know I would have impossed a censorship or two on this board if I'd had the authority, and at least one of us made it their stated objective
to drive me off the board in a thread dedicated to that purpose--a thread, incidentally, that got censored (deleted) by Doug.
While Skeet is harmless, he can inflame people (probably while he's huminisming 'em). Perhaps you don't see it because his politics align with yours,
mostly. That said, I respect his freedom to say the stupid things he says. If I find them objectionable, I have the freedom to respond to them, or to
simply ignore them or not read them at all.

Skeet, whom we all have and show tons of affection for, is afforded way more tolerance than he gives to others. If anyone here ever took it
seriously, it would be a misunderstanding on their part.
Skeet is Skeet and no one here would have it any other way. |
At least now we have this previously-unwritten rule down in words. You newbies have been warned, DO NOT even think about taking Skeet seriously and
reacting accordingly, or Dennis will come a running like a momma grizzly bear to set you straight!

Unless they've made some serious progress lately, the toll road south of Mazatlan ends around Escuinapa before taking up again once you begin to
ascend from the coastal plane up to Tepic. From Tepic, there is only one road down to PV, and it isn't a toll road. But the hilly section doesn't last
long and is quite beautiful, very woodsy and later, jungly.
There is, however, a toll road should you continue on from Tepic to Guadalajara, and then head down to the Coast and Puerto Vallarta. I always have
opted for the Tepic-to-the-coast route when coming from Mazatlan, personal choice.
The non-toll road section south of Mazatlan is one of my least favorite sections of highway in all of Mexico. Lots of idiots who pass when they
shouldn't, passing from the back of the line and then jamming themselves back in when opposing traffic suddenly appears. I'm sure you know the type.
When you get to PV, be sure to get out to the Garden of Eden, south of town. It's where they filmed the Predator movie and it has an interesting
restaurant with a river passing through it and includes a nice swimming area, all located in the jungle (I didn't eat there, so I can't recommend
their food).
