Semana Santa Is Upon Us
This is the Big Holiday for getting away for many Mexican families. The highways and streets of Mexico City will seem deserted as the city empties out
to the coasts on either side of the country.
Here in La Paz the streets will also be empty as many businesses and all (?) government offices closed for three days or more. The beaches will be
congested with Sudcalifornianos, many of whom will make their one camping trip for the year during this weekend. If any of us had plans to camp most
anywhere in the Cape Region, we'd best plan on not having many beaches to ourselves.
Anyone living in La Paz who isn't familiar with the scene might want to take a drive out to Tecolote Beach or up the road to San Juan de la Costa for
some interesting insights into local culture not often viewed.
If you haven't already picked up supplies for weekend plans you might have, you may not find much in local stores as things like shades, icechests,
tents and umbrellas often sell out.
But--most importantly--be careful on the roads as there will be more than the usual number of drunks. This is the deadliest holiday in Mexico in terms
of driving fatalities, which accounts for the increased police presence you will see along the highways.

The Careterra here in Peskys is full of travelers loaded down with kids and baggage ! I speeded up to 65mph in order to avoid sow traffic and was
then passed by 2 or 3 vehicles that made me feel like I was standing still!! l The Depositos and markets have people crawling all over the place. Our
beaches and cold water are not too popular so my neck of the woods aka beach is not crowded, yet. Locals will filter down later to practice the art
of tossing trash. Honestly, they all have a good time and the kids get a rare paseo ala playa! Vamanos, Amigos.  Time for the Semana Santa Tecate

Semana Santa... How absurd.
Except for the part of it lasting a week.
There must be some who respect the religious significance.
I just haven't met them, yet.

we're just back from our semana santa camping trip..like most mexicanos in our area...we headed for warmer water over on the gulf side. It is the one
time a year when one gets more than a couple days off. We enjoyed our stay at Comondu and Agua Verde.
Traffic coming home last night was heavy...we had an hour wait at the San Ignacio check point and the worst part was the gas station on the highway by
Mulege was out of gas...or not operating at all and there were hundreds of cars pulling in so the little station in the village was swamped with cars
lined up around the block.
So my sincere thanks to Mulegena for siphoning some out of her tank to get us on our way much quicker.
We had fantastic weather...swam, snorkeled, dived, visited amigos and had a wonderful holiday....didya miss me?
