Or, just shacked-up like normal people do. |
That's what they were doing for the last few years.....

Blanca................History being made ????????? I seriously doubt it.
Maybe History repeating itself again and again and again to the tune of many $$$$ pounds!
IMO (only mine) who cares ???

Hate is not the opposite of Love. Indifference is and I'm about as indifferent as a person could be about this event. I turned off any channel that
was covering it. I'm wondering why I care enough to even respond to this post.

Not to mention vulgarly ostentatious for this difficult time. A bit of well publicized restraint would have gone for high PR mileage.

I actually got a kck out of a bit on the Daily Show last night. Correspondent John Oliver (a Brit) did a bunch of man on the street interviews that
purported to show that by and large, the Brits are totally over this monarchy thing. Biggest complaint was that given the wars being fought and that
were draining treasuries, and the overall dismal state of the economy that has prompted austerity measures in Britain, the amount of money spent for
this spectacle, which fundamentally comes from British taxpayers, was appallingly inappropriate.
And then there's this thing about the British royal family actually being Germans! |
Yes, but the wedding generated 100's of times that in revenue for London and the country.
I am very familiar with London and enjoyed seeing the streets and landmarks.

very interesting to read everyone's opinion on the event ... and here are some of my thoughts on the subject:
is it any less history in the making here than a president being sworn in ? Is there that much money spent on a presidential event ?? I have no
idea. I think us commoners life is just as important as their life, but their life is no less important either...It was impressive to hear that they
are involved in 100's of charities. which is wonderful.
things I learned about bizarre rules of royal procedure - Kate can no longer be called Kate - it must be her full name Katharine or title. she can
never carry a purse. her hair must be up at all times. she can only be involved in charities and may never hold a job (one of my sons asked if he
could sign up for that one)
all in all, I enjoyed living a real life fairy tale for a day.

With all do respect to you.........You are a great BN here!
But.....I think there's folks here undergoing duress with money and other issues....not a great thing to watch the big bucks on TV. Also......it's
another country....not OUR Queen. We have Goat666 for that position ......... Queen of America.
Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

Fairy Tales
Those fascinated by Fairy Tales should come to California. Our daily news is FILLED with Fairy Tales.
Seriously, though, ANYONE who is a firm believer in the American Ideal should view Royalty with contempt and antipathy. Or, at worst, Disgusted
Indifference.
Our nation was based on a rejection of the entire concept of Title and Privilege to the extent that the Constitution specified that no Titles of
Nobility would be allowed.
Until the WWII period, there was still a strong Anti-Royalty mood among most Americans. It was one of the Most serious impediments to our
participation in WWI and was repeated prior to our being attacked in WWII.
The Class-system resulting from a Royalty-Based society has been repugnant in the past and still should be.
Beyond that, the (economic) defense of maintaining a special-class of token Royals is like those dubious studies that purport to show how much benefit
derives from having a Sports Team, a Super Bowl, etc. Filled with questionable premises and unlikely math.

Perhaps the most ignorant statement I've seen on this forum. Unless it was said in jest. Unless you have an extremely short attention span, you may
wish to consider all the crap that the press put out about candidate Obama attending (for many years) the (yes) Christian church headed by Jeremiah
Wright.
Whew!
Here's, at least in my mind, a very succinct assessment of what;s wrong right now. For those of you with ADD, please forward to about the two minute
mark.
And what say ye to that?

One of my favorite quotes about royalty from the famous Thomas Paine ---
"...could we take off the dark covering of antiquity, and trace them [kings] to their rise, we should find the first of them nothing better than the
principle ruffian of some restless gang, whose savage manners, or pre-eminence in subtilty obtained him the title of chief among plunderers."
And he was far more a Brit than a Colonist---he came to the colonies at the request of Ben Franklin and did not live here long.
McFez---loved your photoshop work.
