May 14-Heads Up Traffic Alert! Rosarito>Ensenada Bike Ride

Yes, the bike ride is back and it's NEXT Saturday, May 14. Normally it's in April but it would have fallen into Semana Santa, thus the date change. So if you're planning to travel south on May 14, between Rosarito and Ensenada, change your plans. Forget the free road, that will be closed. And the toll road gets uglier and uglier the closer you get to Ensenada because all that traffic (route 3, toll road, etc) is merging just after the toll booth and the right lane of the transpeninsular is closed for the cyclists.

Well, if you decide to chance it anyway...I'll wave to you as I go by on my bike!

Last year we were returning north from SQ and saw traffic grind to a halt heading south at the Corona Hotel (south of the tourist area) There was only one lane - We headed north with no problem to our favorite taco stand north of town. Traffic heading south was backed up for miles - The free road was closed and as we entered the toll road north of Ensenada there was only one southbound lane open and traffic was backed up for miles, one lane, heading down the toll road. We heard from a friend that it took 3 hours to get thru Ensenada that day. Stay away at all costs! It was obvious the Chamber of Commerce wanted the bikers to feel safe as there was police everywhere directing the traffic and maintaining the one lane.

we've been stuck in it in a car...and now I ride in it. I'll just keep bumping this up because if you're not on your bike, you DON'T want to be southbound for sure! Northbound: you can utilize 9th Ave (the truck route) to avoid the congestion on Blvd Costero.

Ensenada won't get messy until after 10:00. You should have no problem.

Almost missed plane ride back to the states once, I think it was Mach of 2008 , a big bike race from Mulege to Loreto. We were stuck behind the bike riders for a long long time absolutely no Passing, Luckly for us we decided to leave for the air port early.

Last reminder to one and all! Free Road will be closed from 9:30 - 5:00. Toll road southbound will be a mess, as will Blvd Costero all through Ensenada from probably 11:00 on.

I already decided to head South tomorrow afternoon and spend the night in Ensenada where I can have a nice dinner with my sweetheart and get a reasonably early start in the morning headed for San Ignacio....dt
