You'll sell this very cool Jeep, Mariz, and your price is right.
What you may not have mentioned is, the Jeep is down south with expired US registration. Is that right? And, if so, why?

The Rubicon LJ is an incredible vehicle. Supercharged setups like this one fetch about $40,000.00 on Ebay. If you don't believe me, check for yourselves. Sorry you have to sell, Mari...:(

It is so nice when people who know what they're talking about voice their opinions, thank you. It reminds me of my mans favorite saying "Some men are wise, some men are other wise."

DENNIS, the only reasons we have not registered it is that we are permanent residents here in Baja and making the 1500 mile round trip for inspection and paying the unbeleivably high CA DMV fees for a vehicle we had never planned to take back there, didn't pencil out for us. Helping cover these costs for the next owner is why we priced it the way we did.

My husband was born and raised in CA, he is so disappointed with what has happened to his home state I doubt he will ever return there.

South dakota registration could be an option. Do it all on line with no inspections and the price is extremely affordable.
If you arn't familar with this, we've discussed it a lot here and I'm sure you could search it out. If not, you can ask here. Nomads love to repeat themselves.

Are the "extras" listed at the bottom of your webpage included in the price or in addition to the price? (rack, tube doors, etc.)

How much, if any, is it lifted?

I'm not familiar with CA registration any more. If you are in arrears on the registration, must you clear that up before it can be registered in another state? Sometimes states attach leans on finances until they are cleared.

We will include all the extras for a full price offer. That's about $2K worth.

The Full Traction Long Travel lift is 4.5"

It all so has a 1" body lift.

When I registered my beater Nissan, they only asked for the Pink Slip. That shows registered and legal owners should a bank be carrying a note, but I don't think SD cares what is owed, if anything, to the late, great state of California.

Did you place a California non-op on the Jeep? We are familiar with California and their fees, that is why our vehicles are registered in South Dakota. Pretty sure that the back fees will need to be paid. What was the last year that you did the registration on the jeep?

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

Having made many mistakes with the CA DMV over the years, I was curious about this scenario. Looks like good news for potential buyers. The expired registration liability, which is considerable, stays with the seller.
Oooopsie! Registering as a non op back in 2009 would have been a small, one-time fee and avoided a whole lot of expense and DMV/Franchise Tax Board hell.

As long as the vehicle is promptly registered in California after sale, the buyer will just be on the hook for sales tax, transfer fee and current year registration.
What I would worry about is it passing CA smog inspection with the after market upgrades. I would ask the smog inspector to do an off-line test first in case it fails and the info. wouldn't be transmitted to Sacramento. If CA has a record of it failing as a gross polluter, your retest options narrow.

That's what's involved in reregeristering in CA. Looks like out of state, if possible, is a better option. :o

I believe you can pay past due fees and go no-op without smog, go online and try. Anyway, as we've discussed here, vehicles that stay in Baja may be registered to California and be smog exempt for legal CA residents using the DMV white declaration of facts form, most of Baja is exempt except TJ/Tecate. In fact using this form much of California is exempt for vehicles that do not return to urban regions.

I dunno....3 months back I brought a car back into the States to get it smogged. It was from below Rosarito. DMV told me there is no such exemption, and I had to smog it in the same county that the registration address shows.

My question is more like: Is this 2006 Jeep LEGAL to drive thru Baja while trying to get it up to CA.?

I have seen this Jeep. It looks brand new and worth everything they are asking. The owners are super honest and very good people.
