"I was singing that at somekids party (6 or sothing years old) and then they all started to cry and I was thrown out!"- One of the comments under Weird Al's Happy birthday song.

The video: Ah yes! Sterling Hayden and Peter Sellers in the movie, Dr. Strangelove. Hayden played a caricature of of a prevalent ideology of the day, but he was an actor. Some people claim to still cling to that ideology. I can't believe they are for real. Sound like any Nomads we know?

I knew Hayden in Sausalito. He was quite the opposite of the character he played in Dr. Strangelove. He was really a free spirit. He lived in Sausalito. His boat, The Wanderer was moored there. His office, where he wrote, was a refurbished railroad boxcar right in the middle of town. His wife, "Red" was a real estate agent in Sausalito.

Dr. Strangelove (Peter Seller's character) was uncannily modeled after Henry Kissinger. It was really an anti-war movie except for those who actually believed it was for real. Oh, and Slim "Skeet" Pickens ridin' that bomb. Yahoo!

As Hayden's character says, "...the Communists are sapping our precious bodily fluids..." (sic). I hope they don't make me cry on Skeet's birthday.

So, Skeet...people have said you are for real. On this day I will cut you some slack and wish you a Happy Birthday. No, really! Uh huh! Happy Birthday!!!:bounce:

thanks for the Link on the Japan Airlines Accident. Sure broght back a lot of Memories. The Japanese isisted that the complete bottom of the Airpalne had to be wrinkle free, I had two guys diving and feeling all of the Bottom surface and coming back and reporting it. Took about a Case of good Brandy to get them to stay in that Cold SF Bay Water.

Happy 80th you crusty curmudgeon. What adventures do you have in store?

Long may you live,
w

A reprise of Bilbo Baggin's birthday speech in honour of your 80th.

"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."

Simpler...
I know less than 50% of you half as well as I would like to know you, and I like less than 50% of you half as well as you deserve to be liked.

Basically he's saying that of the group of hobbits at his party, half the crowd he would like to know better, and of the other half, there is a portion (probably most) that he dislikes, but he's telling them that they probably aren't deserving of him disliking them that much

Read more: What is the meaning of Bilbo's speech saying "I like half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less then half as well as you deserve"? I don't get it? | Answerbag http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/1251061#ixzz1MeFFmZjp
