fishing equipment donations for La Bocana

Hey folks, I had a brainstorm and hope you like the idea as muchas I do ....

If you have fishing poles etc. that is gently used and can be re-sold to local fishermen at a VERY REASONABLE price, this is another way to support the sports programs I have - esp. buying the bikes since kids seem to be coming out of the woodwork and asking for a bike - esp. girls and I am thinking of starting an all girls bike team :)))))

In this manner, we are helping the fishermen and kids wo want to fish here by offering poles/rods/reels/etc. at a low price and I can have my super hero MOM buy bikes in San Diego. Everyone of you who are coming down can then help bring a bike or 2. they can be dropped of in Ensenada or at the El Cruzero pit stop restaurant at the Punta Abreojos turnoff.

Any thoughts on this wd be appreciated ... I can't do any of this without YOUR help ....

Blanca, you should provide more information:

What is a VERY REASONABLE price? There is a difference between a donation and a sale. Decent rods are expensive, good reels even more so (you would be shocked if you are not a fisherman), and selling for pennies on the dollar is not a sale, but a donation, and if that's your expectation you would be well served by stating as much.

For example, a decent rod for less than $7 would be a donation.
A decent reel (medium to lightweight) for less than $15-$20 would be a donation.
A good/heavy reel for less than $20-$30 would be a donation.

I think your spirit is laudable, but not sure your information matches your enthusiasm.

Hope you get my point.

Blanca. What about checking with the sport-fishing landings in San Diego. Find out what they are doing with their discarded rent rods now.

Roberto .... I am confused at your response but I think the answer you want is; I want donations.

I was thinking OLD rods but that are useable and that I could sell. My idea is to serve the community as well as raise money for bikes.

What I usually do is have my mom (wholives in San Diego) buy stuff that the community might find useful (purses, wallets, sun block, towels, toys, suitcases) and then I HIRE local women to sell them. The price depends on the item but nothing they sell is more than about $10 dollars. And clothes my family doantes 3 times a year is sold for 3 items for 30 pesos. I thought you all might have old/used fishing equipment that might work well in this scenario.

My goal is to buy bikes that cost $20 - $25 at the swap meet in San Diego. And I need 9 bikes at this point. So. any help you all can give is great. I mentioned fishing just because most of you love fishing !!!

@ woody - :bounce: That's the spirit !!! Thanks so much ...

Whats wrong with Tacate beer cans for reels, old safety pins for hooks, and spark plugs for weights?

Most Mexicans seem to out-fish me with that set up anyway

Curt is surfing up there and having a grand time with his family, I am sure !!

right now I have boys painting the bikes a "boy color" and happy as clams to be riding them around town ... I am waiting for a set of 4 big girls bikes so I can give that first group of ladies that approached me, one each, all at the same time .... otherwise, how to choose one over the other ?????? ... I tried and it got me into trouble ... been there and done that and learned my lesson !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sale

Come and visit one day ....

Clever idea.

I have gear I can donate...but .....I am not coming down till my brother " really does retire :fire:" ........that be in the fall.

Now if anyone here is passing Sacramento to your area...I can unload to that BN.

Again....good idea.

thanks mcfez !! maybe when the fishing gets great, your brother will retire sooner ?????? hope to meet you one day .... all gear - any gear - is just fabulous - helps the kids learn a lesson in working and earning at a young age, helps the local fishermen who go nuts over the fish stuff at a killer deal - helps me keep the ball rolling in tubes, tires, patches, brake pads to take care of the bikes :))))))

anything sports related you come across is good too - this year is 'supposedly" skateboards skateboards skateboards !!!!!!!
