Giving a Baja Dog a Pill

I ask him if he wants a cookie.

He gets the cookie after he swallows the pill.

We have been doing this for two weeks, no problemo.

We buy these little doggy treats called "pill pockets'. Throw the pill in it and close it shut, flip it to the dog and vawalla no more pill. never been easier, but a little spendy.

Frankly a piece of cheese with the pill in it is just as easy and much cheaper. My wife just loves spending money on the babies.

It's a Trust Issue

Every approach that works is good.

Pill Pockets are Worth the Price.

Dealing with a Dog that takes a number of Pills daily, one of which is GRANDE, and who is an EXPERT at working with her tongue to find and spit them out, Pill Pockets work every time.

We used cream cheese for our Bulldog Charlie. It worked every time.

For 50 years I have been using liver sausage, braunschweiger (sp?), as an irresistable treat to wrap around a dog's pill. A disadvantage would be not finding it in most markets of Baja, but pill pockets probably aren't common down there either.

Anyway, if you are using cream cheese or other available queso, the best trick for a dog who is wise to the "pill game" may be to let it see that you have a larger hunk of the goodie ready in your other hand as a "chaser," for when the first bit is going down. This has always worked for us.

I had a Bulldog who looked eggzactly like Charlie. A sweetheart but dumb as a rock (She'd get lost in the backyard).

If she ate any milk product you couldn't get within a block...Unless you had a gas mask.

We use to give the neighbors dog peanut butter on a dog biscuit but so the peanut butter would be on top so it sticks to the top of his mouth. That was just about the funniest thing I ever watched.
