Great Alfonsina's Memorial Day Poker Run

Better than 30 vehicles participated this year over a well-marked 30-mile long off road course. Stops included the site of the mysterious "Gonzaga Bay Dead Guy" grave and the mine plus resting place of William Lacy, from the 1800's.Two free beverage stops were included along the way. Following the run we enjoyed a delicious taco feed put on by the Alfonsina crew. I highly recommend everyone in the area to mark your calendars for next year.

That would've been a strong possibility for us this past weekend as we are only 75 miles north of Gonzaga Bay. Which day was it? I never saw an announcement for it posted on this board.

The annual party that Alfonsina's throws for residents and guests was tremendous. It started at 1:30 with a mass in honor of Alfonsina on the beach under tents, very moving. Then the fun grew and grew with karaoke and then line dancing under disco lights and big screen projections. A raffle for poker run contestants went on and on handing out hats, t-shirts and more. I know I saw a conga line of maybe 30 people with the leader handing out tequila shots! Alfonsina's Resort is so calm and peaceful 97% of the year, but Memorial Day and New Year's Eve, it's wild. Joaquin, Ramon and their families know how to party.

Yes, how do we find out enough in advance about this annual event. I never saw anyting mentioned on Nomad about this. How long has this been going on? What is the date of this run next year? And, what is the entry fee?

Thanks,
Bob H

A few years back I had a conversation with a 30 year resident there. Looked like an old Baja Hand. Turns out he's never been south of Gonzaga or anywhere else in Baja in all these years.
I don't think the place is THAT great!:?::?::?:

Some people are easily pleased... There's a few Baja Nomads I bet who have never ventured beyond their spot near Ensenada, either.

The Poker Run is held Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, and it's open to everyone! (I think this was the second annual.) Come one, come all. Entry this year was $5 per hand, buy as many hands as you like. After the Run great tacos and a beer were $6 at Alfonsina's resort, again all are welcome. As for the big party on Sunday, I need to get back to you. I'll find out if all are welcome. (I do know we were asked to make "reservations" so Alfonsina's could plan things out.) Also, next year as soon as I get an announcement on the Poker Run, I'll post in on this forum.

The big Alfonsina's Sunday Memorial Day Weekend fiesta is, in fact, open to everyone. For next year, I'll post a notice well in advance so that anyone who's in the area can come and celebrate.
