Had some great fun at Las Gaviotas, as they had food & drinks down by the pool over looking the ocean. People were happy and families having a great time. They had music for those that like to sing at night, raffle and let you do your fireworks on the beach for great family fun. Terry28 forgot to come down but maybe next year, huh Terry? More 4th of July fun times in Rosarito, Splash and Ruben's in Cantamar. Happy 4th Fun for all,LOL. Take Care & Travel Safe--- "No Hurry, No Worry, Just FUN!" bajafun777

We are all a twitter with prep for block party, kid’s parade, glittery bicycles with playing cards clacking on the spokes, clandestine explosions of illicit firecrackers as the boys blow up their toy soldiers, the girls will have the best decorated bikes, flashy streamers wafting from their handlebars, bbq smoke, lawn chairs and tables festooned with red/white/ blue bunting and stacks of hot dog buns, mustard and relish and the occasional fat, lazy fly buzzing over the proceedings. The kids will run around making sparkling infinity circles with their sparklers and chase each other in mock swordplay as the evening fades and the adults let loose their latent pyromaniac tendencies, their glee evident in the red/yellow/green illuminated faces as the rockets’ red glare and green florescence explodes over their countenance.

Thanks for the heads up Shari, I will be sure to keep my buns in the shade so as not to burn them.

Grass Valley, CA. alternates with Nevada City, CA. (4 miles apart) up here in the Gold Country with a grand parade, with lots of flags and horse poop. The streets are lined with tourists and locals, but many of the locals leave. If you have been to one of these in the last 20 years, that's enough. I went last year and it was totally taken over by the Tea Baggers.

The carpetbagger, Tom McClintock, is our local U.S. Representative. He maintains some kind of address in the district, but doesn't really live here. (Look up his abominable voting record). He tried many times in L.A. to win something but always failed. If you write to him you get a form letter reply that just outlines his ultra right wing positions. He never addresses your concerns. My letters are always polite; never disrespectful.

I avoid food with Nitrites, grease or mayonnaise. I guess I am just a cultural misfit. Private fireworks are banned in the county. We are very fire prone! That's fine with me. I hate any kind of firecracker noise. They freak out dogs too. Many dogs panic and run away every year on the 4th. There is a big public fireworks display at the fairgrounds though. I am staying home with my dog, putting in ear plugs and assuming the fetal position. Bah!

This makes me feel patriotic, but it is a time long gone, when the United States had a noble purpose, relative innocence, optimism and strong ethics !

I was a child then, but still remember it vividly.

How young those faces look! How joyful and how brave they were!

What has happened to my country? How different it is now, politically and economically. Just trace the causes of our country's demise; the stupid, illegal and unjust wars, and the horrible political and banker crooks that are behind it. My country has abandoned We The People.

Cypress,

I am glad you appreciate the hard work of Obama. It's been tough sledding having to negotiate with the Senate requiring 60 votes to pass any legislation so the Republicans have held most of the cards. I personally don't like the fact that the Republicans control Congress and hamstring the President in this way but that is the nature of politics I guess.

This last go around with Wall Street and the Banks reminds me of the Robber Barons, the Great Depression and now again Wall Street and the Banks and on around that circle goes. With an anhistoric public that is what you get. That shock and awe stuff was pretty expensive, but what a great fireworks display!

I agree with Cypress, it is all going to work out, and that's for sure.
