Figured you'd already been to a neurosurgeon in US.
Urge you to consider a revisit and/or changing/upgrading HMO Plans and/or petitioning your Plan to allow you to see another specialist if you're still
not satisfied; all this is doable; I've done it.
Let your primary physician work the system for you; if he/she won't, consider a switch to another primary physician if necessary. Get the assistance
and advocacy of family and/or personal friends which are specially needed when you're sick.
Spinal micro-neurosurgery has evolved dramatically in the last few years.
DMSO isn't a good idea, inymnotsohumblebutverycaringforyouopinion.
Please take care and let us know how things go.

Nomads,
I have a small tub of DMSO available to Dave here in Nopolo/Loreto. Only one small problem. He's in El Pescadero, south of Todo Santos, and we're
looking for a way to get it down to him. So, if any of you come through here on your way south ( anywhere close ), please let me know and we'll find a
way to meet and get it to you.
He seems in distress and I know any effort on our part to help will be appreciated.
Expecting a flood of e-mails at

I would heed Bonanza pilots warning. There a various grades of DMSO if you are going to put it in your body
make sure that it is laboratory grade and not industrial.
Make sure that everything that comes into contact between you and it is very clean. This powerful solvent will transport
anything that it comes in contact with through your skin and
into your bloodstream/muscles. Do try Naproxen Sodium.
It just may help.

It sure does for me. I take it. [brand name is Alleve at 220 mgs, but I get powerhouse stuff from the VA]
One thing to keep in mind....too much too often can cause Gastro Refux. It did for me and that stuff hurts.
Oh, yeah....I take it for arthritis flare-ups.

I've tried NAPROX but Nimesulide works better and being a cox-3 inhibiting NSAID it does not affect my plumbing.
I use pure alcohol to clean the site of the DMSO application and then let it dry for a couple of minutes.
Alternative HMO's shy away from enrolling me or exclude pre-exisiting conditions outright.
It would be a thirty four hundred mile trip to obtain ancillary care with my HMO, and that just is not possible.

David, I checked back today to see your response to my posting, and read through all of the meds you are presently taking, mostly painkillers with
slightly different methods of attack. I tried to stay objective, but have to get a little anecdotal, and cite my own experience. MD's, for the most
part, will throw multitudes of medications at you to see what works. Reminds me of a mechanic who changes all of the parts until he gets to the real
solution when working on a car. I am a very recent Cancer survivor, and was given the strongest types of Morphine in combination with 100mg. Fentanyl
patches on my arm. Way too much painkiller, and I was still in pain. Even then, I received some anti-inflamatory relief from Naproxen Sodium. After
surgery, painkillers were withdrawn, but I was addicted... and had to withdraw, shivering on the couch, like a transient under a bridge. My point is,
in my non-medical opinion, you might get some relief from the swelling and internal inflammation around your injury, from about 450 mg. of Naproxen
Sodium every 12 hours, but I don't recommend adding that to all of the other meds you are now on. If you are not getting relief from what you are now
taking, try making a change for a day or two.
I feel for you, man.. and hope you can get some permanent correction soon. Newer surgeries that do not open up the area are available. Keep us posted,
and find a Dr. that can help you. In the winter, Dr. David Rose (not practicing in Mexico, but can offer friendly advice) is living four doors towards
Mulege from Casa Granada.. behind the Serenidad, on the estuary.

DMSO
I see you are online, and have been there and done that. Sorry, and best wishes. If you do hookup on the DMSO, try powdering some Aspirin tabs,
mixing it with the solvent, and applying. Couldn't hurt....

My friend Eduardo offerred to take theDMSO down to la paz ...he should be contacting vandenberg within the next couple days. then we need someone to
take the meds from la paz to el pescadero/todos santos/David
the idea of upgrading your insurance is a great one - we have one that lets us go to any doc, anywhere, which is what we did when we went to Dr thorne
of scripps la jolla (san diego). He doesn't take new patients but I insisted and begged and praised him over and over till the secretary caved, and
like someone mentioned, Les was in one day, and walked out the same day pain free.
our chiropractor dr charles salanger of san diego, looked at the MRI etc. before we went to thorne and he said: you need to see a specialist - I can't
help you.
