Always Pick Your Fights

I am a stupid, stupid person.

I opened the door to the pantry to clean the cat box and the new, very needy, Great Dane followed quietly on my heels.

He noticed the cat that lives in the pantry, put his head down to sniff and she swiped her claws across his face.

A fight ensued. The cat is still alive, but traumatized. No blood was shed by the cat.

I have a broken finger and a good amount of blood was shed by me because of several bite marks on my hands while I was prying the dog's jaws open.

Surprised. Usually dogs don't fare well in fights with cats.

Holy Moly Jan, who would think that opening a pantry door would lead to such an adventure. OUCH!

If You were to ask my cat, he would certainly tell you all about what a pain it is to live with 4 stupid dogs in the yard. Getting in and out to go to the bathroom is such an adventure for dear ol Tio Gato. I refuse to have a cat box and he does complain, but I always remind him how much smarter he is than them, and then sometimes he leaves me a little reminder of his opinion on my perspective, oh well.

At least the gentle giant didn't turn on you. That's a good sign. My dogs have never been introduced to a cat, there aren't many around here (outdoors anyway). I think they would only be curious until the claws came out too. Gad you're all OK.

I Do Not Care About the Bites

I am angry at myself for being careless.

Dang scary situation, GJan.
Though I can not imagine you as 'careless'. Your are obviously full of caring.
Find a different adjective and ease up on yourself.
And listen to Dennis about keeping the bites open and clean.

And I take back all of my mean thoughts from about five years ago when you posted a recipe for a Baja liverswurst sandwich where the only Baja ingredient was a white onion. I may be exagerating, but I had been in rural bcs for a year then and was very excited about a possible lws and i was furious that the lw and bread had come from notb. Since then, I have learned to make rye bread and found lw in LP. But I still harboured a negative vibe and I take this opportunity to let that go and tell you that I like to read your posts and you are a very caring person.

nothing worse than an o-line liverwurst grudge. I love the stuff too- with Mayo on soft white bread. Can't stand liver any other way- ok except for duck or goose livers? ;)

That's too funny.

The Cat Died

I held her in my arms, in a safe place and I sat with her while the light went away.

I do not blame the dog/wolf in any way

Sorry about your cat. Can't believe the animal you kindly took in killed you pet. It's sad all the way around. A Great Dane/Wolf mix? Be sure to care for those wounds properly.

So very, very sorry Jan. Welcoming these furry critters into our homes and hearts comes at a heavy price when they leave us - especially under circumstances like this.

You are a very special person in my book...

All Dogs are Wolves

When I call a dog a wolf, I am talking about their
inherited r nature and bloodlines.

They may live with us, but they still know the rules of the wild.

Our cat chose the wrong guy to fight with, even though she had lived without us for years.
