Apple Cider Vinegar and Mosquitoes

I was sitting here getting eaten up by mosquitoes and suddenly remembered reading something about apple cider vinegar being a good repellent (maybe it was here). I put a little on a damp soft cloth and wiped it on my arms and legs. No more Mosquitoes! Well, at least they didn't bite.

Now I smell like a vinegar farm. Going to leave it on for now to see how it affects flies. They are rather bothersome as well and some of those BITE.
Well, no help with the flies. ugg

Avon products are sold in Baja. even in my small town of Asuncion. Maybe Todos Santos has someone who sells Avon. It's worth asking around.

We made this and it works..

To make mosquito repellent mix 3 cups rubbing alcohol, 1 1/2 cups red cedar wood shavings, and 1/2 cup eucalyptus leaves. Cover and let the mixture stand 5 days. Strain the liquid and store tightly sealed and labeled. Yields 2 cups. Put this mixture in a spray bottle to use.

Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

Well, at least now I know why the AC Vinegar did not work with the flies! Ugggg. I shoulda just put a sign on me saying, "Here I am come get me".

RE: Avon. I could probably find the stuff here, but if the vinegar works and it's only 10 pesos a bottle, I'll stick to it for the mosquitoes. I put it on again this morning because I was getting eaten up and wa-la - no more mosquitoes. I love it when something works! I also highly believe in the KISS method.

Hard to find in Mexico pero "Aceite de Poleo" beats everything else, hands down including skin so soft, 100% DEET, or what have you. Also known as Pennyroyal Oil. One single solitary drop rubbed all over on exposed skin. Has a minty aroma. I use P/O + 100% DEET in areas with malaria.

Once the itching begins, plain white vinnegar comes into its own. Spray or rub some on the bite(s) and it supresses the itchy sensations long enough to get you a good night's sleep. Jejenes or mozzies are but a distant dream.
