Bahia de Los Angeles

Mary Ann and I are heading to Bahia de Los Angeles around March 12 through the 25th. Anyone else going that direction around those dates?

Also, our son, Kevin and several of his friends will be heading south down the east coast road a few days later. Anyone know how the road through Gonzaga and Chapala is holding up? This rainy So Cal winter seems to ne bringing a lot of rain to northern Baja too. Any bad news reports??

Leave the 19th, more or less. Come back either the 25th or Apr 1, depending on flowers and the rest of the group. We might avoid BOLA considering it's Easter.

Yes, we will be dragging it down the end of March. We are looking forward to this trip. Yvonne and I are doing a bullet trip next weekend to deliver lumber for the garage. Easter week we will complete the garage and then check out the soda holders :P in our new boat.
S is a very fine person and he kept this boat in excellent condition. We are very happy with the addition. :tumble:

L.A. Bay

I will be heading down with my Girlfriend from the 24-28th of March. Can anyone recommend a nice safe place to camp with a palapa? Also, Im going mainly to fish and want to know what the cheapest way to do it is without paying 250 for a panga. Are there any pangeros that are less expensive. Thanks

Pascuale,

There are many places you can camp along the bay, some with fairly complete facilities and some beaches that are free with no facilities. Because of the Easter week(s) crowd, the more popular places may fill up.

We like Camp Gecko, 4 miles south of town (dist road), but they may be full also.

While I haven't chartered a boat in a while, I believe the rates are substantially lower than the figure you mentioned. If you camp at Gecko's, just ask Doc (the owner) or any of the more experienced campers. Most of the pangeros will come fetch you wherever you camp along the bay.

Have a good trip and maybe we'll see you there.

Pangas in BOLA

The last time I hired one it was $120.00 US for 4 hours. If you don't stay at Gecko (Doc can fix you up if you do) you can hire one thru Rachel and Larry at their restaurant north of town. The only issue we had was that the driver got a little bored and we had seen all we wanted to so we agreed to go in an hour or so early but there was no reduction in price. Might what to reach agreement for early return.

Campo Gecko

Hey Mike, wazzzzzuppp?! We will be in Camp for the first two weeks in June. Are you planning on being there during that period. I might stay longer (Chris has to go back to work, bette her than me right) if our son comes down and can take her back to SD to catch a flight home. Still adding to the place, hope to get started on the REAL hacienda next year.:tumble:

doc's boat

Check with Doc before you count on the new boat. Last time I talked to him he wasn't totally sure of the condition of it and indicated he expected to have to do some work on it before it is ready for hire. Sounds good though.

When was that?

When I talked to him about 3 (maybe more) weeks ago he said he should be in the water by now.

I just checked Docs. site (he finally updated it) as of the 17th. He says "the boat should be here soon"

We had a very good experience

chasing whale sharks with Joel Prieto in BOLA last October. He has a very nice well-equipped center-console panga, knows the bay well, charges $120/day. Very responsive by email at joel_prieto@hotmail.com. I have some pictures of Joel and his panga at

I'm not certain what the summer holds for us. The only purpose of our March trip (other than social) is to settle in on what we are going to do for a place in Bahia. There's one place we really like but it's WAY overpriced. We may have to find land and build and we have ideas on that too. I am supposed to retire next month, but there are complications in that as well.

After we heard about your relocation to the south, we kinda figured we wouldn't be seeing much of you in Bahia, but from what you say, it sounds like you'll still be spending serious time there. I'll keep your summer plans in mind. Don't be surprised if we pop up.

Home Depot......

Well good to hear from you, it took me a few minutes to figure out that you must be you.......First clue was you reference to Chris, then I looked at you location (I had heard you had gone 'southern' on us! Welcome home and please say Hi to Chris for us.....We might get lucky and be down around the same time you are (hope so) some things happening up here might cause a delay. Keep in touch.
