Hacienda del Encanto owner killed

Pat Gee, owner of Hacienda del Encanto, a B&B next door to La Fonda was killed by a hit-and-run driver last night. She was walking home after dinner at La Fonda when a car, traveling at high speed exited the cuota southbound, swerved off the road and ran her down.

Reports are sketchy but most assume this was a drunk driver.

Pat was a good friend. We are both saddened.... and enraged.

I did not know the lady, but my thoughts are with her family as they try to cope.

Horrible needless reminder of the sketchiness of any of our futures.

I saw the flowers on the spot...

today when we went to La Fonda, and my thought was, "Oh dear, who died?"

I am so sorry for the loss to her family and friends, I do hope that the person responsible is found and punished.

In somewhat related news, when we were leaving La Fonda, there was the aftermath of another traffic accident.

A U.S. plated vehicle had stopped to make a left turn into a parking spot, when a Baja plated vehicle behind whipped around to pass. The Baja vehicle crashed into the side of the U.S. vehicle.

It is my understanding that, according to the laws of Mexico, if you want to make a left turn, you are not allowed to obstruct traffic. If there is no left turn lane, you are supposed to pull off to the right until the road is clear or proceed until you can pull off and return.
