Boat or ferry from San Felipe to Rocky Point?

Is there any boat or ferry that I can get from San Felipe to Puerto Penasco? I want to go for 2-3 days the weekend of Oct. 15th.
Thanks, ~Lil' Sue

welcome to Baja Nomads LilSue

if you are in the states, you want to catch a bus straight to puerto penasco ( I presume one can ? )

the only ferries leave out of santa rosalia or la paz - they head for places like los mochis and guaymas. There is information online, I believe under www.bajaferries.com

North from San Felipe on Mex. #5 to BC #4 (signed for Algodones). Go east to Coahuila, cross into Sonora past Riito and down to El Golfo de Santa Clara.

A new paved highway goes from there to Puerto Peñasco... big short cut!

Maybe you didn't read the post David K. The question was about taking a boat or ferry. I'm sure that LilSue is aware that one could drive there.

I did read it... and the answer is NO (as you even said)... Do you think that she just wants to give up on going? Maybe she didn't know of the new highway which cuts a couple hours off the once long drive? You see, I believe in providing information on all options so an intellegent choice can be made. This insn't MSNBC or CNN with just one answer, afterall. Baja Nomad reports and lets you decide! :light::lol::yes:

welcome sue. Ask a question on this board and you get all kinds on answers. Now, if you had asked about driving, you might have gotten more info on a boat ride!

Back maybe 8 yrs. ago, there was a trial effort to
have a boat run to Penasco from San Felipe,
it never did make anything but 1 exploratory trip.
So your ? is not that far afield. but no is the answer
as you have gathered

Now Oddjob and David K., there is no need to argue or we're going to have to separate you two! D

While I am aware about driving to Rocky Point, I still appreciate knowing about the "short cut" and the new road for future info. - I am not as seasoned a Mexico traveler through areas outside of Baja California, so perhaps I will use that route to go another time.

During this trip I am taking in October, I was planning to take my RV (and one dog) and spend a little time in San Felipe, perhaps meandering elsewhere as the tides take me. I found out that some friends are playing music in a fundraiser concert in Rocky Point, so I was hoping to try to pop over there without having to spend the money for gas and another 9+ hours backtracking north to then go down to see them play.

I was thinking I might be able to hire a private boat/panga, but have no idea how long it would take on the water, or the price. I see these friends play music all over San Diego and Mexico, so if I miss them this time no big deal...just thought it might be worth a try.

I'm also open to explore some new terrain as I have a full three weeks off work in October...so any knowledgeable input is always appreciated.

Clara MAY have their new sports boat in the water by now, and can get there with ease. I have no number for them in Puertecitos. Perhaps someone here can supply that data.

DavidK is always putting up great info here at the BN for us....fact is...I rely on his info. He is always going one step beyond of what's asked for.

Thanks Deno... and LilSue, I figured it wouldn't hurt to give you more than what you asked for. A couple of sour grape Nomads like to harass me when I post extra stuff... not realizing there are far more people reading a thread than the few who actually post on it.

Welcome to Nomad LilSue!

It would be a long boat ride, between 70-90 miles as it looks on the map.

Earlier this summer, there was a sunset cruise out of San Felipe. The boat came from PP. If they come over daily, you may be able to hook up with them for transportation both ways. I am going to look in to it when we get back to San Felipe early next month.

Also, you might be able to hire a boat out of the Marina...Just a thought.

People have hired a Panga in San Felipe to take them to PP for the day and back. (A couple from Club De Pesca.) One poor soul had an encounter with a pelican on the trip back. lol

A mexican first aid kit was offered upon his return: A beer, a bandaid and an aspirin.

That being said, you could ask around in town regarding one way or two.

Going to PP ?

Aren't the immigration procedures different from Baja for the mainland ? What would those be if you arrived by boat from San Felipe ?

Pangeros do it regularly. Just ask around the north end of the Malecon.
