I do not recommend this real estate agent in Rosarito

Be careful about rentals and real estate agents as they do not have to be licensed here in Mexico.
I rented an apartment in a building from this agent, Celia Bahena at yourrosaritobajarealty@gmail.com. She tells you she is from Veracruz and has lived in New York City. She did jnot check the apartment before I moved in and when I did it was dirty and had a lot of trash that I simply put on the sidewalk for management to pick up. she never checked the condition of the apartment before I moved in and I had to remove a lot of trash myself. Another person who moved in at the same time had a similar experience with her and the owner.
I have had a difficult time getting the owner, Ricardo, to do repairs such as leaks in ceiling and both he and Celia tell you one rental price and when you sign the lease it is a higher price. Apparently they split the difference.
(Attempted to correct the title but unable) The Lemus Realty in Rosarito is O.K. The problem was with the agent, Celia Bahena, was has since been let go.
When I first contacted the agent, Celia Bahena, she was employed through Lemus Realty which is a respected company here in Rosarito. She showed me (and another person who rented an apartment in the same building) the apartments which were occupied at the time. And I was consequently told by Lemus Realty that she was let go because she was trying to do deals under the table. I waited a month for the person to move and she assured me the entire time the place would be ready. So when myself and the other person moved into our apartments, we were told the owner of the building, Ricardo, would have everything done. There was a lot of junk in my apartment which had not been removed so I simply put all of it outside on the sidewalk for them to remove. There were leaks in my apartment on last Friday when it rained and it took the owner a week to repair them despite me telling the agent, Celia, about it. The other person was quoted one price for his apartment and when he moved in, he was quoted a higher price.
The agent, Celia Bahena, apparently left Lemus Realty to work as an independent, so I am trying to make sure she doesn't get the whole commission. And I do intend to move out within a couple of months as I realize it will take a long time to get anything done here.
So the moral of the story is to be sure when you rent a place to check it BEFORE you move in and don't expect things to be done after you move in unless you do as I did and tell the owner you would never recommend the apartments to anyone. And if you have a problem with an agent, be sure to post it so others can avoid the same problems.
I'm happy to to report that I chewed the apartment owner, Ricardo, out royally this morning and the roof is now in the process of repair. But I don't intend to stay in this place for the remainder of the lease as this will happen again, I'm sure.

Don't know how long you have been coming to Mexico but if removing some trash from your apartment, getting screwed by your landlord and agent bothers you, it is going to be a long haul.
We have a saying here, Welcome to Mexico and have a nice day.
Oh, Welcome to Nomads too...........

Welcome to nomads. Sorry the Rosarito rental experience wasn't what you expected. Is this your first Mexico rental experience? All this caused by a rogue rental agent- who would have thought?! Sounds like the unit owner is doing some repairs- and that is always a good sign so long as he finishes- so keep him fed. It's a renters market in Rosarito- but you always need to inspect the unit and sign the rental contract before you take possession. Hope it works out.

It is going to rain this weekend, so I hope the Ricardo guy got the roof fixed. Have pans ready. ;)

I don't think you can take any recommendation (good or bad) serious from someone with 2 posts.

Apparently I'm one of the WORKING AMERICANS LIVING IN MEXICO that does not like to get taken advantage of by anyone be it Mexican, America or whoever.
And if someone doesn't believe or agree with the post then move to the next one. I'm quite sure there are plenty of Americans who have been taken advantage far worse than my situation and never said anything and those people continue to be patronized by unassuming Americans and contined to be shafted.

Real Estate agents in Baja (and the mainland).....are not to be trusted.....no matter what promises are made. Been there.

I be asking for a reference to a reliable person to help you out...here at the BN. Disregard idiot responses such as norte.....clowns like him DO NOT represent the majority here.

Good luck ...and dont get discouraged...Baja is worth the trouble.

I am not saying your story is a lie, but like i said, with just two posts i think it would be unfair and unreasonable to judge someone who isn't here to tell their side of the story.

Also maryellen, its good you should know that here in Mexico, you can be charged with defamating someone for posts like this one. You should be more careful or the real estate agent can use this against you.

Just tought you should know.

Now now Jesse- no one can be charged with defamation from an internet forum post. This is a USA board run on USA servers and free speech is still allowed. There is no way to prove the author unless they sign it. She is telling her side of the story and there are hundred of websites who call-out bad business people. Ask Joe.

Wooosh, yes the servers are in the US, but if the two parties live and post from Mexico, i don't believe a judge would care. Anyways, why test to find out if its possible or not? i wouldn't do it.

Obviously she is upset and is venting. Who doesn't do that on line once in a while? Maybe the owner will join the board and tell his side. You are correct- there are always two sides. So long as what she is telling is factual- she should post it.

A U.S. (or any other) citizen can be charged in Mexico for a crime committed against a Mexican citizen occurring anywhere on God's earth.

Fact.

perhaps. But in this case the factual evidence for any charge would be located in the USA and fat chance of getting it.

Why would you think evidence would be required? Any Mexican citizen could charge you with a crime, evidence or no. It would then be up to you to present evidence to deny it.

Of course when you add in corruption, all bets for a legal charge are off the table... but this is your beloved Mexico Jesse where one can easily suppress the truth of an individual with casual threats of corruption. You can do this because everyone in Mexico believes it is possible to ruin a persons life for a few pesos. But there is just too much transparency these days- they get caught now. If any threats were made to "Maryellen" she would have hundreds of supporters here already.

Calumny (e.g. slander or libel) is not a crime in Baja California. It is a civil tort. All the aggrieved party can do if file a civil lawsuit and wait for this day in court. There is no jail time and damages are monetary. However, it is still a criminal offense in Baja California Sur. Just ask Fast Eddy Beaulne
