.3 miles of dirt from blacktop to the turn off to Los Delfines. A few miles north between cinco islas and delfines there is a mile of dirt, although
nicely graded.

To clarify... are you saying the pavement southbound now ends 0.3 mile north from Los Delfines. In this newest pavement section there is a mile of
good graded dirt (between Cinco Islas and Los Delfines)... ??? Did I get it right, ? Thank you!

David K, yep, you got it right. It is nice, although I was a little nostalgic for the old one. Also, they said that at the last "Campo Owners"
meeting, there was talk about another new road running closer to the mtns heading north from Delfines area for trucks and about a paved road from
somewhere in that area heading over the mtns to San Quitin. They also talked about starting up mining near the onyx mine and somewhere near the mtns
between delfines and gonzaga bay they are talking of exploratory drilling for oil. For now, it was still peaceful and beautiful, the occasional panga
cruising by and a shrimper here and there.

Wow, such big dreams!
Well, last Spring we were up above at the newly expanded barite mine LA OLVIDADA (between Los Delfines and El Marmol)... Here is that post and photos:

After resting up from the big hike, later Saturday afternoon we took a drive to see the La Olvidada (The Forgotten) Barite Mine. Along the way and on
the return we take a look at the White Slope of springs just east of Arroyo El Volcan.
Looking down at our camp area, as we drive east.
We see some boojum trees as we get close to the mine area.
The road to the mine from El Marmol has been recently graded and is 2WD friendly.
Our first view of the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California) from the road.
That is Isla El Huerfanito (The Little Orphan).
Other islands come into view from the end of the road, 6 miles from Arroyo El Volcan.
Phil (XRPhlang) and David (dtbushpilot) also ride up to the mine with us.
More boojum trees as we head back.

As always...excellent.
This route is in my notes of where to drive on the way down to La Paz.
We are going south from Mexicali about the 17 or 18 of December.
I'm taking orders as to what someone wants me to bring down (within limits, we have an FJ and will have a large kayak on top).
I'm looking forward to using our new ARB cooler!
