Finding Inky in New Discover Baja Newsletter
Some of you remember the story from the Amigos de Baja board or from my web site photos at http://vivabaja.com/403 while others will get their first look when they see the brand new, color Discover Baja Spring 2005 newsletter...
Graham Mackintosh who now is editor of the newsletter asked me to provide some story ideas. Graham being fond of dogs*, I showed him the Inky photos.

The original trip report I wrote for Amigos de Baja was lost when Amigos retired. So, I wrote a new, shorter version that highlighted the Inky
subplot... Graham edited the story to fit the newsletter and also used three photos from my web site.
One of the photos shows 'ChicagoRoss' driving his Jeep down the Widow Maker grade, near Mision Santa Maria. Ross, your email isn't working... I hope
you see this and can get a copy of the newsletter!
The photo of Sarah with the rattlesnake was actually the third snake we found that week, not the first at the mission.
As you can see from my web site photos, joining Sarah and I for the trip to Mision Santa Maria was ChicagoRoss and Rose as well as Fishunter and
Linda.

Oh, for the newer folks... Inky was a dog wandering the desert between Rancho Santa Ynez and Mision Santa Maria. She was quite a mystery until Linda
used the satellite phone at L.A. Bay to call the number on the dog tag... Inky had run away, while her master camped one night near Catavina...

One tiny note on the article... The line that says: "We were only able to drive about another - mile before a steep rise with knee-deep ruts forced us
to walk."
It was supposed to say: '1/4 mile'... not '- mile'... the printer didn't get the 1/4 just the /.

David, my wife read the Discover Baja newsletter last night and your story (good job by the way). She was distraught that Inky was lost again
(obviously not your fault) and was wondering if Doc or anyone else came across Inky???

No, Inky never reappeared... She was an old Baja dog, and Baja is where she wanted to die (like me)... That explains (in my poetic mind) why she ran
away from her American bound owners and Sarah and I... Far better she spend her final days in L.A. Bay than in the middle of the desert...
By the way, I was finally able to hear all three segments of the Carlos Fiesta program... Very good guest!

I have offered to provide more articles... the Exotic Canyons, Hiking El Camino Real, things like that... Space is limited, so probably not in the
next issue.

Yeah, I understand David, but my wife is such an animal lover she wanted him to be with her owners who raised him.
Glad you liked the show and I do let the tech guys know everytime you or anyone has a problem. I know you contact them, do you get a response from
them?

Inky was a female... and she ran away from her long time owners... then ran away from us (well the fireworks helped). She had real good treatment from
Sarah... and we were at Camp Gecko for a few more nights after she left, so she could have returned if she wanted to.
I heard all three segments of today's show, this evening... and with the least amount of trouble as ever... So, if your Internet man tinkered with it,
it is much better... thanks!
I saw the U2U and replied... thanks again Ted! Remember to reserve a room at Baja Cactus for the Cultural Festival in July!

I remeber the Inky story well. It's nice to look back at it again. Inky probably had a great life and was ready to do her own thing - IN BAJA!
