Foreign Currency Settlement Check
A small bonus check arrived in today's mail.
Being a naturally suspicious sort I looked at it first as another scam attempt, though I haven't received an appeal from Nigeria in quite some time.
When I looked at this closely, I realized that it's legit. I remember filling out a claim some four or five years ago, went to my files and
eureka!, there it was. (Yeah, don't ask about my proclivity for 'filing' everything.)
The judgement settled in favor of the plaintiffs in 2009, but it's taken this amount of time—appeals, padding attorney fees, etc.—for the courts to
approve fund disbursements.
Anyway, if you receive a check from the "Foreign Currency Fee Litigation Settlement Fund", it's looks okay to cash it.

Seems like the average settlement check is $18.04, but ours was much more than that, so it validates (at least to me) my nasty habit of saving
receipts.

Not a scam
We got our's too....yesterday. I nearly threw it away at first...and checked that website. This is a very good topic your posted here.
Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

It's for that very reason that I posted the thread. The form that arrived (I assume it looks the same for all.) looks too much like one of those
"Renew Your Warranty Now" mailers and I didn't give it much of a look either.
Since many readers of this forum probably use their credit/debit cards to obtain cash in Baja as well as other foreign countries I thought the
information might be useful.
Since the deadline for filling out the original claims expired in 2008 it's a bit like closing the barn door after the horses have fled for some, but
others might have filed claims and forgotten about them—as I almost did.
If it hadn't been for the fact that we took a trip to South Africa and Namibia during the time in question and had a bunch of those transactions I
might have shined it on as another class-action waste of time. Glad I didn't.
It's also made me a bit more thorough when I review all the statements and "bundle-bills" we receive.

I got mine yesterday in the amount of $47.91. Nice get-back-at Payback! 
It is a weird looking check; smaller than a regular check with parts attached. I thought it was some sort of promotion or sales enticement, but when I
looked at it carefully, I decided it was legit.
Today I took it to the teller window of my bank (no longer
B of A because I fired them), along with the parts that were attached to the top and bottom, just to substantiate it's legitimacy. It is now
deposited.

AND . . . If you read the fine print . . .
You might notice that this was the first settlement of 2.
So.....
You will likely have a second check coming when that settlement is finalized (for a second time frame)....
I see the legal fees awarded were in the $14,000,000 range PLUS all expenses.
I don't know whether to thank the attorney or kick his/her/their burros!!!
Neither, I suppose I'll just deposit my 36.87 and fuggiddabowdit.....

We got $92, 762.00 back.
Kidding. Our refunds were from the trips to Germany and a few other places. You may be entitled to a meager piece of the Wal-Mart/Netflix lawsuit also
