2012 A Leap Day and Leap Second
2012 BRINGS A LEAP DAY AND A LEAP SECOND
When February arrives, we will receive the gift of an extra
day because 2012 is a leap year. But that isn't all the extra
time we get this year. On the night of June 30, after the very
last second of the conventional day, an extra second will be
added, a "leap second."
Bet you did not know that not every fourth year is a leap
year. If it's a hundred-numbered year (e.g. 1900), the number
must be exactly divisible by 400 to be a leap year. For example,
2000 was a leap year but 1700, 1800 and 1900 were not.

Brilliant! That way he can only forget his anniversary once every 4 years!

Seconds Count !
Maybe, at the Hometown Buffet.
But, this second doesn't mean Crap to ANYBODY on Earth.
As one scientist put it when discussing this a month or so ago, "It might not seem important, BUT if we didn't make these corrections, in a few
HUNDRED-THOUSAND YEARS, people would notice it".
OH.
Yeah.
I can see that.
Glad we're going to dodge THAT Bullet.

Interesting topic! Extra day sounds like I have to work an extra day? :-)
I think most folks at the very end of their life......would definitely ask for that one extra second. Time is priceless, use it well!
Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

Time doesn't conform to our notion of leaping, you can't add time or subtract it so just enjoy every second of your life as if it was the last.

Every second while in Baja counts as relaxation time. Extra second for that last sip of beer or tequila.

Wishing and Hoping for that last second
Testing the premise, I WISHED for one more second of life.
It took Longer than a second to do so.
Hm.
Which means, of course, that you'd have to wish for it ahead of time.
Which means that you'd have to use "seconds" that might be used for something else to wish for that last second.
We all KNOW that "Wishing won't make it so" SO the Wish would be wasted, wouldn't it ?
Which doesn't mean anything, anyway, because THAT second is THERE, regardless of what you wish.
It's a Riddle within an Enigma wrapped in a Conundrum.
Or something.
I think I've wasted some seconds musing over wishing.

Steven Hawking and I have a raging battle about the big bang thing and his idea that time did not exist before that event (so it didn't happen). Can't
win me over with that argument so I sent him this whole thread to show we had our own ideas about time. Have not heard back. Well, maybe I have but it
happened so fast I missed it.

hey Bro, me and Stevie share a birthday along with Elvis, David Bowie and Rocky Longway.
suffice to say that if Stevie doesn't get back to you that the resulting party was OFF THE HOOK!
or the time/space wrinkle was a product of the night before.....
edit: thanks for sending the snapping dolphin!

Woody, you don't know how the dolphin attacks haunt me -- I wake up screaming. If you could see my scars you would not put the word dolphin in your
posts. They're just junior orcas and they can kill you in ways I don't want to talk about.

Heck, I could reset my watch every day and reap the same benefit.

Reaping the Leap
I'm wondering if there are any studies contemplated regarding the Economic Benefits Worldwide as a result of that added second ?
Could that one-second of extra activity be what brings Europe out of its Malaise ?
Assuming that those Union-Workers don't just spend an extra second goofing off ?
China will, no doubt, benefit most since they have the largest work force. And, unlike Europeans (other than Germans) actually put in a day's work.
