DONATIONS FOR ENGLISH BOOKS
ok amigos who love Baja and don't speak such good Spanish - here is your chance to help the Mexicanos learn English ...
I just went toa three day conference for all BAJA SOUTH public school teachers (I now teach English in La Bocana's school) ...... and ..... some of
the remote (more remote than la bocana if you can believe it) are having trouble getting the new English books for their students.
Blanca now has a new project (and already got 2 donations via facebook !!)
I would like to get the schools that mentioned that they are so poor that one of them does not even have bathrooms (parents are making one now) the
latest and greatest in English books which all schools are supposed to adopt. The books are very well put together and only cost $10 !!
there are an average of 37 students per class.
if anyone is interested in making a huge difference in this part of the world - you can mail checks to me at:
BLANCA PORTELLA
PO BOX 7321
SAN DIEGO, CA. 92167
or if you want to give money directly to SHARI - I have asked her to handle BAHIA ASUNCION. and if anyone wants to "adopt" a school, holy smokes.
that would be amazing.
The list of schools is:
BAHIA ASUNCION (REQUEST PUT IN TO SHARI)
EL CENTENARIO
BAHIA TORTUGAS
LOS PLANES
SAN IGNACIO (I WROTE TO JUANITA TO HANDLE THIS ONE)
CIUDAD INSURGENTES
BENITO JUAREZ
LOPEZ MATEO
SAN YSIDRO (NEAR SAN JUANICO)
LAS POSITAS (NO IDEA WHERE)
MARQUES DE LEON (NO IDEA WHERE THIS IS EITHER)
MARITON ALBANEZ (")
CIUDAD CONSTITUICION (OUR FAVORITE HAHAHA)
AND LA BOCANA (BLANCA)
AMIGOS, I figure at one dollar a book, we can handle this so easily !! An average class size is 37 so $37 takes care of one entire class for 1 year.
We can worry about next year, well, next year !!!!
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the small school English teachers are quite qualified, the teacher from Lopez Mateus has been to Europe 2
times to teach Spanish...
So, I put it out and you all can really make a difference in the future of these kids. I do have an account at BANAMEX and u2u me for the account
number. and of course, if you go by any of these schools, for sure give the principal the cash directlyand make sure they know what it is to be used
for. Each school will have to order their books so that they get delivered directly to them.
Peace to all and I give the guarantee that you will see photos of the kids with their fancy dancy English books !!!

CORRECTION - EA BOOKIS 130 PESOS SO THIS IS TEN BUCKS.

Blanca,
First let me say, I would be glad to donate. I would say though, most of these schools are not in small out of the way places. They are also in
towns that tend to do rather well. Maybe its a matter of priority than money?

I will send this link to our Delegada (who speaks English) and the coop (after all it is Lobster season). I am sure they can come up with 500
pesos for La Bocana/Punta Abreojos.

Ralph !!! you the bomb !! as you know, I am far away and on my way even farther tomorrow (CANCUN here we come !!!)
If you can get the cash for the punta abreojos/la bocana kids then I will donate my books to another school !!!
yup, lobster season is indeed here ...
so, we have 37 in each class and two of them so = $74 or 130 pesos each book and they will come down in price once we order our first 40.
the teachers from the other locations said that there was NO way they could ask the parents to pay .... it broke my heart. so I took on this project.
Many of my amigos in the states have already come thru...as soon as the checks arrive at mom's, I will give an update )))))

Wait a minute - something doesn't compute here...is it $1.00 per book or $10.00 per book? 130 pesos is more like $10US, so it's more like $370.00US
for a class of 37....or am I missing something? In any case, a great project and still not a bad price for a textbook.
