Smoking, Cocaine and Cardiovascular Disease...

Reading the latest coroner's report on Whitney Houston, I was saddened as maybe some of you were as well by the death of a seemingly healthy looking beautiful woman at the relatively young age of 48. But there were many clues in the death of Whitney Houston that could benefit us all. First of all, her arteries were 60% obstructed with fatty plaques. How and why did this happen? She was not overweight. She was Afro-American, and this particular race has a genetic propensity for cardiovascular disease. But there were other clues here even more fascinating. Take two brothers from an Italian family. My father and his brother. My father smoked Camels non-filtered cigarettes most of his life starting at age 15 and ending with his death at 81 years old. His brother was 13 months younger, and never smoked a day in his life. His brother is still living at age 89, with arteries pretty clean for his age (50% occlusion). At age 60, my father had over 80% of all of his major arteries occluded. Wonder he lived until age 81.

The big clue is this. Smoking causes constriction of the artery walls, and thus causes buildup of plaque or artherosclerosis at an accelerated rate. But so does cocaine. And since Whitney struggled her whole career with an addiction to cocaine, her arteries were constricted a majority of the time, so the fatty plaque buildup was accelerated at an alarming rate. The coroner reported Whitney took a pretty good dose of Cocaine right before she drowned. Cocaine also causes cardiac arrythmias and a large demand of oxygen from the heart. Coupled with her advanced atherosclerosis, the blood could not reach the heart in adequate amounts to supply oxygen and she had a heart attack.

Most of us don't have the money or inclination to use cocaine, or crack, or ice, or methamphetamines, which have similar effects. Smoking however does cause the same pattern in increased plaque in the arteries.

Whitney sank benieth the surface of her bath water and was so stoned that her gag-reflexes didn't bring her to her senses.
The coroners mention of heart problems was nothing more than a gift to Whitney and Hollywood and will forever be mentioned by her slobbering fans as a major cause of her demise.
She died a junkie's death brought on by her own hand. She and her demons were the only ones in that bathroom.

Interpretation of a Layman

The amount of Flexeril and Benadryl as well as Xanax were at or sub therapeutic levels, so the Coroner believed they had nothing to do with her demise, stick to your specialty and I'll stick to mine. I did careful research on this and I am in total agreement with the Coroner's report. What kind of gift is saying you are a chronic cocaine addict and took your last hit before you dropped dead? UMMM...no gift!! Marijuana doesn't kill as for being stoned, unless you eat a half kilo of it...and junkie is a heroin addict..no heroin was found in her system. She had a heart attack in the bathtub, pure and simple.

Way out of line.

My point was that smoking can cause a problem...and drug use..I wasn't criticizing her...I guess you missed the point...sorry I don't talk about Buddy Holly, then you would agree with me it was OK to post on topic.

hey Doc, you'll notice i wasn't quoting you or anyone else for that matter. you lay out a lot of very good points with your medical background. things most of us have no clue about.

BUT, i don't care about whitney, buddy, janice, jimi, kurt, amy, or any number of addicts who lived their own lives in their own way. we all are racing to the same fate-regardless of the circumstances of how we get there....

get in line.
