Ensenada beach launch

Hi everyone,,, John and Gerda here,

Had our first beach launch for the 12ft valco the other day.

Sun was out, a nice day just a little wind, surf was small, good conditions.

After an unsuccessful first attempt I was off and motoring down the coast.

I want to say a special thanks to beachbum1a who helped me enormously and who was the one that originally suggested Punta Banda as a great place. A true Baja spirit. Thanks so much..

Hopefully two pictures will be included.....

Hope you all are having fun......

John/gerda

It looks like you must have launched with a trailer? A boat that small would be really easy to launch with some "Boat wheels"....especially if you get a set like ATV tires. Here's the idea:

Looks like it was a great day on the water!

Panga beach launching has always been interesting
to watch, in San Felipe, they play with the tides
while pulling Pangas around with their old 4x4's,
I can't imagine what a Panga weighs. Prior to the
ramp at the Harbor in San Felipe, there was this old
WWII, beast of a vehicle, that would winch 26' +
powerboats up out of the Cortez with trailer and all

beach wheels

Thanks for the suggestion and pictures about the beach wheels.. do have a set for them. they help a lot.......

Both when I launched and came back in i used the wheels....had to put them on while on the water as boat gets way too hard to lift when beached on the sand.....

My boat is about 165-175 lbs with no stuff.

bests....john/gerda

more ideas here: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=17439&pag...

i plan to just get close to the water and drag it off the trailer into the water, mount the motor and be off. retrieve will be via rope to get it up the slope and then dismantle.

Sounds like a plan Bob I never used a trailer and always car-topped my 14' which weighed 118#,just put it up and took it down,I did it myself when the wife was along, had a 12' which Idid the same, then a 12' Porta-Bote which only weighed 75' which was a piece of cake.

Had a 10hp which I mounted when the boat in the water and a 6hp on the others, this was always on the gulf side, the conditions are nearly always better for a beach launch with a small tin boat.
Go for it Woody:D

Anyone can catch fish in a boat but only \"El Pescador Grande\" can get them from the beach.

I hope when my time comes the old man will let me bring my rod and the water will be warm and clear.

Anybody here done that?

The current in the entrance to or from the estuary mouth can be very decptive and dangerous I personaly have seen people get in trouble there I was with a friend in a 22ft Boston whaler with 2 115's on it almost loose it there.

They are working on a new and much Improved ramp in Punta Banda it looks wider ana longer than the old ramp only time will tell. I have lived here almost 9 years and its The longest I have gone without a Boat for the simple reason there is no good place to launch and I am not into rowboat fishing.

I have jet skied out from Estero Beach hotel, it was lots of fun! I would not try it in a boat. Currents, waves and sand bars would make it ify at best. That said I watched a ski boat motor right out the mouth and they water skied in the ocean for a few hrs then came right back in with no problem. (mastercraft type boat with a driect drive) crazy.

Why thank you John P. - I do like to fish! Missed you at the Blues Festival in San Felipe this past weekend! It was pretty darn good. In fact if it stays the same next year I'll go back for sure.

Hey John (and Gerda) looks like your post is missing a picture but that's OK. Great seeing you down here and thanks again for dinner - both of'em!
Adios

Just do it!
