Flights to Mulege, Loreto, La Paz, SJC.. from California?

Just wondering if anything has changed with the flight situation to Loreto from California?

I need info on a one-way flight from San Diego to Loreto around April 26-28th. I suppose Air Alaska/via Horizon is still the only horse in that race to Loreto? Last I heard, that was the case, anyway...

Options may include California to La Paz, San Jose del Cabo (SJC), or ?

Inquiring minds would like to know??

Got any ideas or advice? Private plane coming towards Mulege or Loreto, perhaps. Would pay fuel, extras, etc.

Just kicking this ball around...thanks, Pompano

Roger..

Check this thread out for Cal Jet...

http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=59261

Their service starts April 21st and flies again on the 28th..
Not sure what they would charge for a one-way..

Also, Volaris has their La Paz- TJ flight that runs around $130 one way.. Their schedule should run everyday..

Buena Suerte..

try TJ

Thought of trying Tijuana......

Volaris flies from there, La paz and Cabo both serviced, last i checked it was about 40-50% cheaper than flying from the states. Gotta watch the weight limit on your bags,,,,they don't fool around with overage charges.

Heard a rumor they will pick you up from the greyhound station in San Diego and shuttle you to the airport for about 15 bucks.

Yes Volaris offers a shuttle from SD bus depot right to the TJ airport. If you're already in SD and you have a friend that can drive you to the border just walk across and catch a cab. I have been walking across at Otay (take the footpath at the end of the cul-de-sac across from the AM/PM) and stroll about 75yds to the border and taxi stand. http://www.volaris.mx/en/

Sorry, just checked. Volaris doesn't fly into Loreto. La Paz is the closest they will get you.

There isn't anything from San Diego to LTO. Volaris fly from Tijuana to La Paz, then bus ride from LAP to Loreto takes 5 hours, make it 7 with few hours waiting for a bus in LAP. Make it 10 with the ride from SAN to TJA. Not much fun. Cal Jet or Alaska from LAX sounds better, though it seems Cal Jet fly on Saturdays only.

Edit - PS: you can walk across the border in SY and grab MX cab to TJ airport. Greyhound from SD downtown takes about an hour to SY and costs - don't remember - $10 or so. Then it stops for 1 or 2 hours to pick up people in SY and then it takes another 0.5-1 hour to cross the border to TJ, but you can walk across and grab Mex cab instead.

Thanks for that good information. Sounds like I should have no trouble getting back to Mulege from San Diego.

Planes are my best option, it seems. Not too sure I am willing to ride that bus again...last time was..... rather sleepless.

Went to Mulege from Tijuana and back a few times - a red eyes ride, takes about 15 hours. Even if you leave in the morning, you arrive tired, well past midnight. Good buses, Volvo I think. AC, movies in Spanish. But this is Mexico, so there is no toilet paper in the bus washroom, no water, and the very use of toilet takes acrobatic skills in a bus wigging its tail on Mex 1 at 60 miles speed. No big deal :) ... They make pit stops and dinner stops once in a while, and then there is a relatively clean toilet with paper, unspecified fee at the door. On major holidays it's advisable to book your bus ticket few days in advance, as there might not be any seats half an hour before departure. Also, they cancel buses on Christmas, IIRC - as ticket clerk answered to my question "?Por Que?" - "Por Dios". Stupid me gringo don't know about Christmas :)... then he explained: "Because we can't stop bus drivers from drinking on that day, but we don't want people get injured either".

Gracias Alm,

But...you will not find me on another countrybus in Mexico...or any country on the planet. Been there, done that...and managed to survive twice...and do not desire to tempt fate with a third trip.

How many burned-out bus wrecks did anybody ever count back in the late 70's when the pavement was only 4-5 years old?

PLANES ONLY, POR FAVOR..MIL GRACIAS
