THE SPANISH FLY - with Jose Wejebe

we had the pleasure of having Jose, his assistant and a photographer stay with us while they were doing a documentary on fishing in Baja....and Julio Mesa was their coordinator.

right now they are all in BoLA

I'll post some pics soon - it was a blast seeing them in action and hearing their life stories. Jose started out with the Seaquarium in Miami - working with dolphins.

Every day is an exciting one here !

I've watched a lot of his fishing show, but mostly it seems around Florida. He's entertaining.

That must have been fun.

A couple years ago Dave Despain from the Speed Channel walked into a restaurant where I was eating. Poor bunch of guys were testing new BMW dual sports that no one else had even SEEN.

TV adventure guys...what a life!

Looking forward to your pictures and I hope to see the final results of their work.

We hear it is a long boat ride from Abreojos to San Ignacio.

Very cool Blanca. We don't have TV anymore since we moved here and didn't know his show was still on.

Here's a flashback to an earlier post about José and I remember Loretana's comment about "and then I wake my husband up" and it still cracks me up:

When I watch the fishing shows I always kind of look at the host and think "would I like to fish with that guy?" most of them I say no because their arrogant or goofy etc..... but Jose seems like a regular guy that knows his sheet and would be fun to fish with.

I just came across this sad news this morning: Jose Wejebe plane crash

I wish I was lucky enough to have met him. Hopefully it wasn't him, but they fear it is.

Yeah, it's all over the wires. My favorite part was when his client had a big tarpon on and the fish wrapped around a pylon; Jose strips down to his briefs, grabs the rod and dives in, swims around the pylon and hands the rod to the client who continues the fight.

Watched his show for years, salt of the earth guy, walk around in go-aheads while making a commercial, and yes would have loved to fish with the guy. RIP Jose
Life is so uncertain, sad day for all fisherman.

Anyone can catch fish in a boat but only \"El Pescador Grande\" can get them from the beach.

I hope when my time comes the old man will let me bring my rod and the water will be warm and clear.

Wow, very sad, Jose's show was one of my favorites. I had just watched the Baja shows a couple weeks ago and it really got me stoked about my upcoming trip to Todos Santos. Like I posted in this thread earlier Jose was the one guy on the fishing shows I would have liked to fish with he was just a knowledgeable, genuine kinda guy. RIP Jose :(

I am in a state of shock - well, we are in a state of shock...he was at our B&B and really was such a nice guy. We hit it off so well, he promised to return with his family for a vacation...what very sad news ...
