Diesel prices NOB compared to a year ago
Just spent the last week driving north from BCS to USofA.
I was expecting to pay substantially more than last year at this same time. After all, I kept hearing the US media say "gas prices have doubled in the
past year".
Prices may have doubled somewhere but not along my route. I purchased diesel in AZ, NM and TX and found that the average price I paid was only 3.6%
higher than what I paid exactly one year ago on the same route.
$4.039 average this year (2012) vs $ 3.899 last year (2011). Not exactly good news but not horrible news either.
So, once again the US media misleads, distorts or outright lies to the American public.
Comments and opinions welcome.

I think YOU are wrong in your recollections about what the US media has been saying about gas prices. For prices to have "doubled" recently would have
meant gas would have been around 2.00 gallon before. It hasnt been there in at least 10 years.

Go to Catalina Island where pump diesel is EIGHT DOLLARS THIRTY THREE 9/10 GALLON.
Or Love's fuel stops FOUR DOLLARS FORTY TWO 9/10 GALLON
Oh yeah, it's c-h-e-a-p! Four hundred dollars to fill a motorhome fuel tank to get from Redding to the border. It's the eqvt. of paying seventeen
dollars for a happy meal or two hundred dollars for a Motel 6 flea farm.
Anyone care for a seven dollar loaf of bread or a parking meter than swallows dollar bills?
Trust Me! It's Cheap!

actually heard in the past week some talking head on the radio state that "gas prices have doubled in the last year". That was obviously BS.
The real shocker for me was paying $4 for an Egg McMuffin when I stopped for breakfast while passing through Yuma. Never again.

I stand corrected. There was a period in 2008 where, in about four months, the avg price of US gasoline went down from an average of 4.12 to below
2.00/gallon. But it was back above 2.50 in four short months. That period below 2.00 was the first time since 2004. I assume diesel mirrored this.
It appears that fuel prices have peaked and are headed down, according to the chart on this site.

When fuel prices go up the price of everything else goes up. That's called inflation. The cost of fuel, food, building material, etc. will continue to
rise.

This chart shows world wide gas prices (11/2010) for comparison:
chartsbin.com/view/1115 - 75k
At that time cheapest was:
$0.093/liter in Iran = $0.35US/USgallon
and most expensive was:
Turkey at $2.52/ liter = $9.57US/USgallon
Mexico was $0.81/liter = $US/gallon
US was $0.76/liter = $2.87US/USgallon
and Canada was $1.21/liter = $5.46US/Imperial gallon

But, as stated, my average price paid at stations in AZ, NM and TX was $4.039 per gallon.

Need to figgur out how to convert our vehicles to natural gas. Just finished below 2.00/million BTUs today. Damn, that's cheap for a clean burning
source of energy.

1 000 000 Btu = 8.007 gallon [U.S.] of automotive gasoline
in terms of energy
