Developer Carlos Teran
Developer Carlos Teran who built the Baja Beach and Tennis Club and the Baja Country Club died last week due to Diabetes and Heart related problems.
Mr. Teran was also the owner of the San Carlos Hot Springs.
I worked at the BBTC as the Residential Director for two years and had no idea that there was a legal battle regarding the property. If you remember
most all the homeowners were evicted from their homes that they invested their life savings about ten years ago. My job there was to organize the
building of the homes and make sure it was being built to the homeowner's specs. I did not deal with Mr. Teran directly but I knew him well
personally. If I would have know that there was an ongoing problem with legal battles over the property I would have NEVER had taken that position.
The question I ask myself often is did Mr. Teran know what was to come after he opened the club? He must have. Was there collusion with Teran and the
property owners? We will never know for sure. Why was it after over 100 homes were built that they were evicted? A very good time to finalize the law
suit!
Many of the homeowners lost everything they had ever worked for their entire life. All they wanted was a place on the beach where they could retire.
Many went back to the U.S. and had to rent a small apartment or a mobile home. What a shame and it's something I think about often.
In 1990 I was asked by Mr. Teran to be the sales manager of the Baja Country Club where I worked for two years.
The one good thing that happened to me at the BBTC was that I met my wife there and 22 years later I still love her as much as I did the day I married
her.
So many say Carlos was a crook but I have never met a Mexican Developer that didn't have that handle.

Emilio at Sharky's said otherwise, Dan. Said he was putting lots of Pesos into the project which led me to believe it's common knowledge.
Maybe just a rumor.
Anyway.....whoever is behind the project does have lots of money. Who in Mexico could that be?

Emilio is spreading rumors. I don't know who is the owner. The last time I was there was back in the 90ies and it was a pretty cool place then. Huge
property!

He is probably just misinformed. Octavio Olmos is the owner of Las Canadas. Just learned this from my Brother in Law who worked quite a lot for Teran
just recently. Teran has nothing to do with Canadas.

At least Teran was responsible for one happy story, 22 years running. Congrats.

and what about Jorge Cortina (current owner of La Marina restuarant)? Was't he the guy that evicted a lot of the residents?

come to take possession of their property.

I never met Cortina but from what I heard he was very easy to work with for those who were evicted to get their homes back, for a price of course.
For those that have worked with him in this regard they have all told me that he is a pretty good guy.

I wish I would have know that..... What BBTC needs now is to get that hotel up and running again and CLEAN the property. Last time I drove through
there it looked like a movie set for armageddon.
Now with tourism coming back to Ensenada what is needed is that hotel to be completely renovated and operated by someone who knows what their doing
and the current community to organize a group to take care of the streets and maintenance. Maybe one day.
Dennis, have you heard about the Tiger Woods project? A friend of mine who was the golf director at the Monterrey Country Club contacted me regarding
memberships last summer. The initial fee for founding members was 50k. He said that the fee would go up depending on how many members bought. I
explained that I would not contact any of my friends for membership until I saw some work being done. I have not driven up there for quite awhile. Any
action?

None. A promoter is still, as far as I know, trying to get some money interest in the project since all the backers did just that....backed out.
I have a feeling that Tiger, and his namesake golf course are both history.
