Golfo de Santa Clara east
I see on my Guia Roji map a road marked SON 40, it appears to start in Mexicali and goes to Santa Clara and then on to Puerto
Penasco. Does anyone know if it is paved, dirt or sand between Santa Clara and Puerto Penasco? Has anyone traveled on it lately? Thanks in advance.

Yes, new paved highway (well new a few years ago)... Lot's posted here on Nomad including photos. Normally the town is called El Golfo (with the de
Santa Clara left off) and Puerto Peņasco is often called 'Rocky Point' by gringos.

I typed in 'El Golfo to Puerto Penasco' in the Nomad search, and here is one thread from 2009 with photos from BBBait on the new road: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=37394

Golfo mis-spelled on above map...

Do not drive this road in the evening. There has been some piracy on this road after dark only, from what I have been told by my rocky point friends

Yikes! that's awfully close to baja. If mexico allows this to happen on any road between puerto penasco and US, that is the final coffin nail for
puerto penasco tourism...
