The real issue here

The real issue is not whether or not that particular post was obscene, or what the "limits" might be.
The real issue is, what kind of little society that we maintain here do we wish to have.
Frankly, when I read the post it just sort of hit me that this is the kind of stuff we snickered about behind the backstop in the 7th grade.
And I really don't want to go back to that place in my life.
I have used the metaphor in the past.....
Bajanomad is like a big beach campfire, topics come and topics go, some folks drink a bit too much and get a little (ahem) stupid in their remarks, and we wander in and out of the circle and the conversation.
Most days and evenings I enjoy the campfire, surely not all the topics are of interest, and surely not all of the arguments offered up are of merit, but still the little society ambles along.
But, then along come a couple of wannabe kids, that think it "cool" to drop certain words, certain phrases, and opting on topics way past their level of expertise.
I guess that sort of describes how I see Nomad- sometimes I just get up and leave the fire for a while.... but sometimes you just need to grab that kid that is out of line and remind him to get back in line, or get out of the circle.

My thoughts....

I never read the post in question. Never clicked on it.

I was just speaking generally about deleting threads.

Is there ANYTHING that we havent seen in this world, at this point? Leave it up.

If the kids will be offended, KEEP YOUR KIDS AWAY. Dont take info from adults to spare kids.

We have a nanny state; please not a nanny Baja board.

Of course there must be rules. To have an "anything goes" forum would never work. Threads would deteriorate to the point where most of the bajanomad community would stop attending. Insults and counterinsults with the 'winner' being the last insult posted. We've all seen glimpses of what it would be like. You yourself would stop coming here.

The only beef I have with the moderation is that it's difficult to make sense of a thread that's been heavily edited. But I can live with that.

An unmoderated forum would be suicidal for Doug. He would be destroying his own website. That's my opinion.

I agree with you Frank... that way we can still enjoy the thread and the Nomad with the 'potty' mouth/ rule breaking will get the hint when only his reply is removed.

Doug really hates to remove posts... instead he 'locks' them closed, or moves them to Off Topic.

Maybe a poll to see the thoughts out there...?:
a) Remove only the offensive/ rule breaking post *OR*
b) Close the thread/ Move the thread to Off Topic.

My vote is for (a)

i'll cancel your vote and raise you. if BN wants to police every thread he should leave them up in their original death spiral so that, like Hook said, we can glean any useful crumbs from the info provided...

Is there any chance that Doug might speak for himself?

No, I don't hate different ideas, but I would not ever assume that I can speak for someone else---read your words, David---you are not speaking for yourself, you are speaking for someone else

Yes, express YOUR opinion, but I was just asking if Doug can speak for himself, or are you his official spokesperson? Maybe you are???

Well.. lets see Diana...
1) Doug is my friend
2) I have been a Nomad longer than anyone else here other than Doug
3) If Doug has a problem with anything I post, he knows how to reach me.

Why don't you worry more about your life and less about mine...

Thank you!
