Oh Dear Lord, Another Tent is Going Up Next Door
Did I mention that we live next door to an approximately four-acre estate that is designed to be rented out for weddings, parties, etc.
Things were quiet for a while during the last couple of years., but ever since the first of the year, there has been a party EVERY weekend.
Last weekend, the DJ played this horrible techno pop music very loud, ALL NIGHT LONG, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 am. No stops, no breaks, just constant
thump-thump-thump. Our dogs were nutso and barked nonstop, and, not to mention, the firework display set off from a panga offshore that was
Disneyland style in the height of the round pinwheels and falling sparkler lights and the noise.
Now they are putting up another tent large enough, as usual, for one hundred or more people.
On the good side, I guess, is that there is a comeback for the local economy.
I need to buy some earplugs.

Oh Jan...how awful for you...did you know about the party planners when you bought the place? There is alot to be said for buying a place with the
neighbours already in place eh!
I am a very light sleeper (and Juan is a BIG snorer) and the only earlplugs that work for me are the yellow with blue cord...kind of screw in
type...they nearly block out all noise...buy a box of em...they wear out after a couple months...but this will definately help.

What works for me a a sedative of some kind (Lunesta for me). It's good for about 6 hours.

Yep-------Fight fire with fire--------it almost always works. I once taped our neighbors dog barking, then turned up the volume on our stereo outside
speakers, and let er fly for several mins. in the wee early morning hours------no more problems with the barking dog at night as they kept the dog
inside from then on (mostly). Never had to even talk to them.

For perros I prefer cuetes but no so close as to harm their hearing. It isn't the concussion, but the startling aspect of the noise. A blast from a
trumpet works. At home I have a 30" disc of 1/4" plate steel GONG hanging from a chain. One good solid WHACK from a pipe would bring Fu Manchu hither
on his knees. It causes silence.

my gosh ! these posts have me laughing out loud ..... never thought of these ingenious solutions.
and yeah, it is a nightmare to have loud music at all hours of the night and morning.
an obnoxious dog woke me up last night, it was barking incessantly at 3sih am......and I never got back to sleep after that...sure got a lot of class
planning done !!

The Next Door Neighbor Was a Failed Hotel on the Market for Years
During the time when we built our house.
A few years ago, just before the Baja Real Estate meltdown, this was one of the only properties in the area that sold and the new owner sank a lot of
money into renovating it.
After that othing happened for a long time, then in the last few months - Kapow! Party central next door.
Today, the guests for the current event started arriving. Two guys sunk a couple of stakes in the sandpit that is next to our wall and started a game
of horseshoes. Horseshoes with real horseshoes! Clank, clank, clank over and over again.
If I survive the weekend I will register my report with the board.

Barry if the steel is soft it will go clunk rather than ring like the bell from hell.
Lay it on the sand, take the pien side of a ball pien hammer and start whacking the steel from the center radiating out like a coil of a snail. It's
tedious all right, but you are making an acoustic work of art. Lay into the thing with the hammer. It's going to warp but who cares. It's going to
sing to miscreant neighbors like Lucifer's orchestra.

Jan if there was a Hotel there when you built, you had to have known something commercial would be there. Horseshoes aren't bad at all.

The sound of them landing against the metal stakes completely replicated the sound of the tent stakes being pounded into the ground, which leads to
the anticipation of the noise that is to come.
I am trying to be humorous/complaining here to vent to what I hope is a sympathetic audience.
And, yeah, the former owner always boasted to us about how he was "grandfathered" with a commercial license, but since it was a dead in the water
operation, we hoped that the property would be sold for private use. So much for naivety.
The new owner, who by the way, is a personable guy, but quite the businessman, did a remodel that took down the decrepit structures, but kept all the
footprints of the original buildings intact, there is a term for that that I can't recall. That kept the commercial license for the property intact.
As I said, he made quite a substantial investment and after a wait of several years, he is making a profit on the property now. $16,000 per day; you
pay for the wedding planning, entertainment, music, light show, fireworks, caterer, waiters and clean up and whatever else out of your own pocket.
If you don't fulfill the terms of the contract, the deposit is forfeited.

Santispac. What a surprise! I was not thinking about Easter week. It was 1994 and what a mess, but by Good Friday the place emptied out and the trash
was collected. My wife and some friends flew in on Saturday and by that time the beach was quiet.

Now if I can only figure out what to do about the obnoxious mocking bird singing all night long...Sure he's telling the other male birds so stay out
of "his" territory....but sheesh, It's MY territory too.
A shotgun would work, and I know my neighbors would secretly thank me; but the cops....not so much. 
The only bonus is he and the missus eat the bugs that eat MY garden veggies. That's really the only reason I don't bust up the nest, yes I do know
where he lives.......

I like you thought of ear plugs on your own. Too many people come to Baja want to be on the beach then complain about the noise. They would rather
complain and annoy those enjoying than do the simple thing. plug your ears.
